Enjoy placement - it's the place where learning and practice collide giving you a real sense of what physiotherapy is about. Placement has been the most valuable learning experience throughout my 3 years and has given me the chance to do and experience things I never thought I was capable of.

Share any evidence of self directed study with your educators. This shows you are proactive and creates a nice portfolio for your own CPD. I summarise any self directed study in a table with the following headings: Date / Time / Action / Summary of learning / Application to practice.

Do not worry if you get questions wrong or don’t know things because you are there to learn and we are all human and make mistakes.

When you do your reflections make sure you share them with your educators because it allows them to get to know you as person and it allows them to see if there is any areas they can to help you with.

Even if it’s a placement that’s not your favourite make the most of it because every experience you have is valuable and will help you become the best physiotherapist you can be!

Placement is by far the best part of the course! It is where you do all your learning. Your first one is 4 weeks just enjoy it don'y worry about not knowing things you are there to learn. Ask lots of questions, offer help and stay open to any opportunities i.e. seeing surgery's, other wards, working with different members of MDT etc...

Keep up to date with pebblepad and do weekly GIBBS reflections, developing a good habit for the following years and placements to come. Work on your pebblepad each week as you will need this for your portfolio at the end of year 3 so get organised now.

If you're driving or taking public transport to your placement it's really useful to do a trial run of the route prior to your first day. This gives you an idea of how long it will take during traffic and helps familiarise yourself with the route which takes some stress off on the first day. If you are driving it is worthwhile asking your educator for tips on where to park for free and then walk a short distance in to save money.

Be mindful of getting to know the team you’re working with on a more personal level. If you get on with the team, asking questions and being open and honesty about how you’re finding placement, what you want to get out of it, what your learning needs are becomes a whole lot easier to discuss! And this will make placement a lot more enjoyable and easier, helping you to achieve your learning outcomes. Be mindful too that your educator/ team maybe really busy and not think to always actively include you in conversations etc.. make the effort to involve yourself!
