My influence for this song is ethereal songs which involve a lot of vocal layers used as synths and catchy melodies. This song doesn't sound very electronic, and I would like to go into a more electronic direction. However I found that what I really want is to create is raw natural sounds and treat them in an electronic way. So that's what I did with this song. i over edited my vocals to create synths. At 1:12 i reversed the first line 'hold that' and added reverse delay, it repeats 4 times every time I sing hold that. I really enjoyed using strange layers like this because it sounds like I'm breathing in really quickly and making strange rhythmic detailed sounds with my vocals. it creates so much more complexity, I find it quite addictive and will be using this much more in future for my vocals. in the past I would use lots and lots of reverb on all tracks. recently when experimenting in the recording studio, i studied ethereal artists I really love listening to, I listened to Slowdive specifically to show to the producer so that he could produce the correct vocal reverb. we discovered that the vocals were completely dry with delay. since then I have been using delay instead of reverb, reverb is not needed to create spacious sounding songs. instead I like to use many layers, and some with delay. This way everything sounds so much more crisp and professional while still having an ethereal ambience. I've been using more double tracking and panning for extra spaciousness. I also sometimes use auto tune, time stretching and moving parts of a track around to make sure everything sounds smooth. I am a little against this because i cannot rely on it when I am performing live, however using it in an artistic way can be find fun and useful. I will have to work on training my breathing techniques in order to fix my occasionally flat vocals, when I am nervous or excited.

I would like to re record all of the vocal parts. some are perfectly in key but not recorded with a professional home. you can hear that with the professional microphone my voice seems to hold back a lot. This is because I am not used to singing in front of others especially when my voice is maximized and in super detail its like I am completely exposed. so I tend to tense up causing shortness of breathe and a tight lump in my throat. I need to work on feeling loose around others as if i am alone. I can hear that i breathed into the microphone too much and blew strong breathe which caused a lot of sounds as if i was hitting the microphone, I need to work on my microphone techniques.

hopefully I will have saved up enough to buy my own professional mic soon, I will then practice all the time at home. For now I intend to visit the studio as much as possible to keep learning new things. Although the tone of my guitar sounds fantastic, I am a little nervous and don't strum the strings with much wrist movement, this stiff technique causes the rhythm to drag, i picked it up a bit but I need to work on consistency.

At 2:48 when i go back to playing the guitar i feel as though its out of place in its positioning, i would like to figure out what i could do in that section instead, i don't like how the guitar feels too much like an ending before the outro, it feels unnecessary and a downgrade from what played previously. It was okay to have simple guitar at the beginning because it feels like a warm up to what is about to become, but when 2:48 comes in it's calm and boring again in the middle of an exciting climax, it's too abrupt.

My most proud aspect of this song is the melodic textures. Although its a mix of studio and home recordings so it is hard to hear all of these textures well, i can still feel how uplifted i am when hearing it. I also like the structure i have created. There are no 2 parts the same, it constantly changes and i love that.

I would like the song to be longer but when i tried extending the song, the special feeling of the song was numbed down. The length is perfect. My plan is to focus on making every aspect of this song with lots of thought and attention, making it more crisp, large spacious panning and satisfactory frequencies. I want to make this piece short and sweet.

Half of this song is recorded in the studio, i added vocals and synth when I was home.

My DAW song:

https://www.bandlab.com/revisions/cb2a1eb

8-249d-ee11-8926-000d3a428257?sharedKey=3pzpfQOcB0efrOSfq2e-Og
