Arabanoo was born in 1759 and was a part of the Eora clans. Governor Arthur Phillip ordered his capture at manly in the December of 1788 Arabanoo was at first impressed thinking that they were being kind but soon realized what was going on.

Arabanoo acted as an informer for Phillip, telling him about indigenous society and culture. He would sit down for formal dinners with Phillip, wearing European clothes and was also exposed to a lot of their culture.

Arabanoo did not understand a lot of it and was horrified by the public flogging and bodies of the aboriginals taken victim by smallpox.

Arabanoo was a kind man who through the torture of his people from smallpox and the Europeans, provided information so the Europeans could understand the Ingenious people of the land. Although he was forciby detained and treated poorly he survived and ironically after saving two children from the disease was killed by smallpox.

So Arabanoo left a legacy showing that co-operation does help and he showed the settlers a lot of what they knew about Aboriginal culture
