Governor Arthur Phillip ordered his capture at manly in the December of 1788 Arabanoo was at first impressed thinking that they were being kind but soon realized what was going on.

Arabanoo  acted as an informer for Phillip, telling him about indigenous society and culture. He would sit down for formal dinners with Phillip, wearing European clothes and was also exposed to a lot of their culture.

Arabanoo did not understand a lot of it and was horrified by the public flogging and bodies of the aboriginals taken victim by smallpox. He nursed two children back to their health and died by the disease himself in may of 1789 and was buried in the governors garden.
