Dismissal Procedures

One of my favorite rules and procedures I have placed this year is for dismissal. This school year consists of a lot of trial and error due to staffing shortage. I created a Dismissal Rule Checklist and post it on the wall for a smooth dismissal transition. In addition, I have a reminder rule that reminds students to take their personal belongings such as lunch pails and glasses home. Unforunetly, I have some parents that are quick to blame staff if their child forget items, even though they had plenty of reminders. Theregfore, I made parents aware of the dismissal rules because I need them to understand the shortage and help implement the rules. I have students line up in bus number order and I line parent pick-up at the end of the line. I priortize the bus riders, therefore I load them on the bus first. I have some parents that like to talk and will disregard that I am holding other students's hands. This has been an honest conversation with parents and provides the importance of safety and understanding siotuations better.

First/Then Schedule

This is NOT the schedule I use but it is very simiiar. The reason I implement these procedures is because I teach SPED and they require repitition and routine. They follow the schedule and place a checkmark for each lesson that is complete. The procedure to follow the schedule is to help them transition smoothly and more predictable. My class understand morning routine, classworkm and dismissal better through the use of organization and building structure.
