Chailey School has been selected to take part in the Tesco Stronger Starts community funding scheme. We are raising money to fund our careers trips and activities for KS3 and KS4 students during the 2026–2027 academic year.

These trips give students vital real‑world experiences, helping to raise aspirations and support informed choices about post‑16 and post‑18 pathways by meeting employers, visiting workplaces and exploring future options.

How to cast your vote

We are seeing an increase in students wearing oversized jogging bottoms for PE. We would like to remind families that jogging bottoms should be appropriately sized, not overly baggy, and fitted with an elasticated, cuffed or tapered ankle.

Oversized jogging bottoms are not suitable for PE activities and may present a safety risk, potentially resulting in injury.

Please could I ask that you ensure that your child wears appropriately sized jogging bottoms as described above, to support both safety and participation in PE lessons.

The government has announced that the eligibility criteria for free school meals will change from 1 September 2026.

From that date children will be entitled to free school meals if their parents or carers receive any form of universal credit. However not all children who qualify will be entitled to other associated school-related benefits.  Information relating to this will be shared when it is available.

Please apply now if you believe you qualify.

The system is now checking your eligibility for free schools meals in September under the new criteria. Your child will not receive free school meals before then unless you qualify under the current criteria. If you believe you do but aren't currently receiving free school meals please email us Free.SchoolMeals@eastsussex.gov.uk

The day was marked by sunny and hot weather, creating challenging conditions for competitors, particularly in the longer distance events. Despite this, Chailey students rose to the occasion, showing resilience, determination and outstanding team spirit throughout.

All students represented Chailey School exceptionally well, competing with enthusiasm and supporting one another in every event. Their conduct, both in competition and on the sidelines, was a true credit to the school. Despite rainy weather forcing the tournament indoors, the triangular rounders event against Uckfield and Ringmer proved to be an enjoyable and competitive afternoon. The adapted sportshall rules were embraced brilliantly by all three teams, allowing the tournament to run smoothly and maintain a high level of play.

Match 1: Chailey vs Uckfield

Chailey’s opening match against Uckfield saw a strong performance both in batting and fielding. Edie stood out early, scoring an excellent rounder, while her teammates capitalised on opportunities to add valuable half-rounders to the score.

In the field, Edie continued to impress with a determined display, including a brave dive to stop the ball and several accurate throws to both second and fourth posts to prevent Uckfield from scoring. Claudia also made a key contribution with an instinctive catch of a fast-moving ball, securing an important out. Overall, it was a confident and energetic start from Chailey.

Match 2: Chailey vs Ringmer

The second match against Ringmer featured more strong fielding performances, with the whole team working hard to limit the opposition. Primrose was particularly effective, making several well-taken catches at second post to halt Ringmer’s progress.

However, Ringmer were able to take advantage of a few occasional errors, building a total of 9 and leaving Chailey with a challenging chase. Chailey responded admirably with the bat, showing noticeable improvement in decision-making compared to the first match. Primrose again contributed positively with the bat, helping the team reach a total of 4½.

Overall Performance

Although Chailey finished in third place, the team’s progress across the tournament was clear. Their improvement from the first game to the second demonstrated growing confidence, better communication, and stronger tactical awareness.

Mrs Maynard praised the team for their teamwork, resilience, and consistently positive attitude throughout the afternoon.

Well done to all players for a fantastic effort!

We have had a hugely successful week here at Chailey with the finer weather allowing a range of sporting events to take place. The rest of this bulletin shows our student successes and we are immensely proud of the levels of participation our students have shown. A drizzly visit to Newick yesterday was one the highlights of my week watching the cricket team excel and showing the true spirit of teamwork and community. 

The final round of student leader interviews took place this week, and we are delighted to announce that Ella O, Olly R, Ethan B, and Arthur S were successful in securing the four posts. These students have shown the Chailey values in abundance since joining in Year 7, and we are proud that they will represent our student body going forward. In addition to this I want to thank all the other Year 10s who put themselves forward and put a huge amount of effort into their preparation and delivery, we want to make sure that there are leadership positions for them too as their qualities are too good to miss out on.

Just a reminder that students do not need ties or blazers next week.
