This picture relates to Bernard in the way that he is focused on his work while the other people are having fun. This might also connect to the fact that he likes to be alone and being secluded.

This quote is when Fanny and Lenina are talking about Bernard. They even notice that he is alone a lot of the time.

His values changed because he was treated differently and as less of an Alpha than his peers. He prefers to be alone, he would rather stay to himself out of fear of judgment and rejection. His values about himself have changed also. 
“Bernard had suddenly turned and rushed away.” Relates to a situation where Benito did something he thought was weird, so he ran away to get away from it.
