Economic Boom

During the Economic Boom, the automobile was created. The invention of the car revolutionized America. Roads were paved all across the country and the landscape would never be the same. One of these new paved roads would be known as Route 66, which connected Chicago to California. Businesses also began boom because of these roads such as shopping centers, motels, gas stations and more. Because cars were quickly becoming a easy transportation option, the decline of the railroad began. People could now travel freely and quickly to location without the restrictions that would come with riding on the train.

The Airplane Industry

The airplane industry began with just with just mail carrying for the U.S. Post Office. Once the airplane was perfected, it became another form of transportation. People were not only able to drive or ride a train across the nation, but now they could fly at an even faster speed to get to their destination. Businesses that made radios and other airplane equipment quickly rose up because of the demand for these types of items. The railroad industry continued to become a less used option among americans and companies simply because they could fly using a cargo plane now rather than use a slow train.

Credit and Mass Advertising

During the 1920s, the Installment Plan was introduced. Because of the growing desire across America to rapidly purchase items that they desired, a plan was put in place known as the Installment Plan or credit. Because everyone constantly was purchasing items and paying it back later, it led to people taking out so much and not giving enough back quick enough. Mass advertising was also introduced . Mass Advertising allowed companies to tell customers about their product without actually being there, while also removing the hassle of having an advertising company advertise your product for you. Electrical conveniences were also more common in American households. Many people began to buy refrigerators and toasters, causing the economy to continually boom and grow and new companies to form. Although many of these businesses thrived, others took heavy losses and began to fail such as farmers. They had to pay back all the money for the expensive machinery that they had bought. Along with this, the machines were too efficient causing too many crops to be produced and not enough being purchased, leading to dropping food prices

Harding Presidency

Because of Harding's new tax policy to raise taxes on imports to 60 percent. Because of these raised tariffs, it became impossible for Britain and France to pay back their war debts. Because they couldn't pay back the debts, Charles G. Dawes was able to negotiate a deal, which in the end the United States was being repaid with their own money. Another problem with the Harden Presidency was the was the Tea Pot scandal. Albert Fall got money from Oil companies and claimed that the money caim from contracts that were in the government's interest. Many of his close friends also began to use their power to become wealthy causing him to have a bad reputation just like them.
