Not necessarily as a main focus of writing classes, however, I think cursive can be seen as a way of exposing young students to creative and artistic writing without forcing them into an art class. As Nick mentioned, I don't think it should be a main focus either. It is something that is fairly unique to one person when it comes to a signature, something that cannot be copied, which is why it is used on things like legal documents.
