The colours in the background of this front cover are really vibrant and eye-catching. This is quite unusual for a magazine cover of any magazine, as magazine covers tend to feature block colours or simplistic patterns as a background. As a result, the foreground is immediately emphasised. This is because the bright colours in the background will make the colour in the foreground look darker than it actually is. This is great way to attract the attention of the consumer, as their attention will instantly gravitate to this cover. Although, the masthead is also a bright colour, the colour of the background also makes the large white and red masthead stand out from the page.

The artist on the front cover, Kendrick Lamar has been made to look like he's powerful and of a high status. This is because the close-up portrait of his face is centralised and practically takes up most of the page, the picture partially covers most of the masthead. This means that nothing is on top of him and that he is important enough to be in front of the masthead.

The masthead is mostly covered by the image of Kendrick Lamar. This is done to show Kendrick Lamar's importance and to emphasise that he is the focal point in this issue. XXL is a popular Hip-hop magazine and has the ability to not have to display their masthead fully, as it is instantly recognisable to the consumer.

These inform the reader what’s inside the magazine, therefore this would create a sense of intrigue for the audience, as they will know what to expect. Ultimately, it gives the reader something to look forward to. The array of popular musicians listed will further intrigue the reader, as their favourite musician might be listed which will prompt the consumer to purchase the magazine.

A quote from the interview inside the magazine is placed on the cover. This is done to attract the audience, especially because the pull quote consists of numerous rhetorical questions, it will make the reader think and also if the consumer is interested in Kendrick Lamar, they would want to know his answers to the series of quesitions.

A narrow font is used for the cover lines and the pull quote. Whereas, with Kendrick Lamar's name, it is in bold, perhaps to reinforce that this issue of XXL is primarily focused on him.

The placement of the text is faultless, there is no text which overlaps the artist's portrait. Also, the font on the right side of the cover page (cover lines) is nice and clear. This is as a result of suitable colour and wise choice, the neutral colours white and yellow stands out on both bright and dark backgrounds. This is why these colours have been used for the text, and as a result of this smart selection there is no difficulty when trying to process the information.

Kendrick Lamar is presented as a powerful man, he doesn't need to flaunt his wealth to prove this. He is wearing a basic white t-shirt and a baseball cap with the letter "I" on it, which is a song from his latest album at the time. The fact that he is wearing this particular cap, indicates that this issue will be about his latest album
