Everyone would still have something to turn in and we could post in the same place for uniformity for the kids. I know a lot of people still struggle with the Magic Calendar, but I don't necessarily want to get rid of it now that everyone has worked so hard to build it.

I really like the Magic Calendar. I have had no complaints from families. If done correctly, it is very easy to provide your family with a PDF format that ALSO updates when you update your calendar. I like that the MC is real time and when I change something students can view instantly. The Window Announcements were cumbersome in that they were edited in Word, then saved as PDF, then had to be re-loaded into the OHS. Most of the time my re-loaded version would not work in the OHS! Also, CC recordings had to be placed on a separate doc when we had Window Announcements. Reading some of these other comments, I feel that it is user error that is causing families strife, not the MC itself. If the teacher properly hides cells and edits the MC, it is not hard to read at all.

I'm not a huge fan of the magic calendar. I think we could use excel or OneNote to house all our instructional links and resources. I think we should upload our links and try to keep everything in the OHS as much as possible. I feel this would make things simpler for teachers and students. I like the the idea of using OneNote to save documents and HTML codes (with snips of what it looks like) to use in future OHS classes so we do not have to "recreate the wheel" each year.

I like the idea of using the Magic Calendar for planning but would rather the students follow the Class Plan in the OHS for due dates. The Class Plan is there when they open up each course and they see what they need to be working on. The Course Plan can link directly to assignments/activities in the course. It is worth the time it takes to set this up because it's SO easy for kids to find now. It's literally the first thing they see.
The Magic Calendar is great for extra resources and class recordings. It is not great as a calendar. I think using that concept but making it a document that just houses extra resources and recordings would be more beneficial. One Note could do the same thing and be easier for teachers to learn since One Note won't require any of the publishing steps. However, a well made Google Doc could also be great to use but maybe more user friendly than the Magic Calendar with all of its tabs and rules. I think the most important things that the Magic Calendar gives would be 1) what kids should do each day, 2) what CC will be about, 3) CC recordings, and 4) extra help. Whatever we have needs to do these things.

For example, should teachers just put due dates on graded work or do we put due dates on class readings too? I personally think we need due dates for any work we want them to complete so that it shows on their schedule for them to complete. Whatever is decided needs to be CONSISTENT!

OneNote is redundant, as it essentially does the exact same thing that the course materials section in the OHS is set up for. And it's just one more place to go, one more thing to bookmark, one more thing to have to remember. As a student, it would be incredibly frustrating to have to go 4 different places to try to find the information I need for school. Everything should be housed in the OHS. Let's take advantage of it's functionality.

Use the OHS

Use the OHS and the due dates and all the functions that are available there. If all teachers are required to put due dates on all the graded assignments, then it shows up easily for students to know it is due.

We need to train students that EVERYTHING they need (including due dates, recording links, etc...) can be found in the OHS and just make sure it's there. Why are we doing things multiple times?

I say if a teacher wants to use MC or One note, then use it- but that's just an extra for the teacher and the students IF they choose to use it. However, it's not necessary when we have all of our course materials in the OHS.

I agree with keeping everything in one place. We definitely need to take advantage of all of the functionality that is in the OHS. We may need more training on all that can be done in OHS but it can all be housed in one place and these outside things are unnecessary. (not that they can't be used but they just aren't needed if we use the OHS correctly)
