The Setting creates the mood for the reader. As in this story the author included great details to paint the "full picture" for the reader. On lines 32 & 33 the author writes, "It is a big, airy room, the whole floor nearly, with windows that look all ways, and air and sunshine galore. It was nursery first and then playroom and gymnasium, I should judge; for the windows are barred for little children, and there are rings and things in the walls...The paint and paper look as if a boys' school had used it. It is stripped off—the paper—in great patches all around the head of my bed, about as far as I can reach, and in a great place on the other side of the room low down. I never saw a worse paper in my life." It does weigh on me so not to do my duty in any way!..I meant to be such a help to John, such a real rest and comfort, and here I am a comparative burden already!" This showing her sarcasm. Not anyone else. Thus we cant be sure if how they're telling the story is reliable or not. In line 188 she says that she discovered that the woman behind the paper was the one moving the patterns. By line 240 she's biting the bed. This showing she gone "mad" in a way. obsessing over the woman in the wall. It makes me think of all the yellow things I ever saw—not beautiful ones like buttercups, but old foul, bad yellow things. and in line 183 just restates the "yellow smell". I believe that the narrator wasn't just seeing a woman but it was more of a representation of how a lot of woman felt like they where "trapped" in their marriage. Didn't have enough freedom, whether that being freedom of speech or just freedom in general. As in nature the male is more dominate, that meaning they're say is more than a woman's say.  An example of this is shown in line 10.
