Seeing as there were quite a few others in the class that had wanted to focus on girls' education, I chose to switch gears and focus on the pre-primary school education that children receive in China. I hope to explore the structure of the preschool system within China as well as the preschool system's overall impact on the educational success of students in China.

I was able to get some insight into the differences in early childhood education that there are between the U.S. and China in another course, and it was a topic that I found immensely interesting. There are certain cultural practices and beliefs that have an impact on the education that is provided to young children. It is something that I wanted to research because it goes outside the realm of the standard primary education that typically gains more attention, it is focused on the pre-primary education of children which can be different in many ways. I want to look deeper into the cultural and educational aspects of the early childhood education.

I would use a mixed methods research approach because the main goal of this research is to better understand the early childhood education system(s) in China and their effect on overall academic achievement. I think that this could be looked at from a cultural studies approach, as there are aspects of culture that impact the way in which early childhood education is taught in China. However it could also be done from a constructivism approach as there are elements of the research, mainly the academic achievement aspect, that will be impacted by their "assumptions and prior experiences as well as by the reality that they interact with" (Maxwell p.43, 2013).

Reference:
Maxwell, Joseph. 2013.
