Only 144 people were exonerated out of the 8 127 people sentenced to death row since 1976. That is only 1% of people I think that many more have been executed when they were not actually guilty. I feel that people can't fully recover because the wait to be executed is nearly 15 years. Many criminals would rather be put to death than have to live their life locked up in a jail cell. Several people have died of old age, heart attacks and strokes before they are executed. Not only does it take a long time for the guilty to be put to death it costs around $90 000 more than the average prisoner, ($60 000) which works out to around $150 000. It is not only the costs for imprisonment it is the costs for the execution.
