Show students the cover of the book.  | What do you suppose this book is going to be about?  Who do you think wrote the love letter? Do you think the hedgehog wrote it or do you think he received it?  
Read the title and the author.  | What do you suppose the title might mean? Do the two characters give you any clues?  Have you ever received the love letter?  
Start reading the first few pages of the story.  | What do we know about the character in the book? What is the setting of the story? When do you think this story took place? Let’s look at the characters and some of the words- clothesline, characters dress, etc. How do you think the love letter made them feel?  
Continue reading.  | What happens next in the story? What do we learn about the characters from their actions? Have you ever had a similar experience? How did that feel? When they all found the love letter do you think it changed how they felt?Why? 
Continue reading.  | Continue to think about the text and ask questions. Why do you think these girls couldn’t play with each other?
