         <description><![CDATA[<div>John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, MA. He was the second child out of nine that Rose and Joseph Kennedy had. His family was prominent in Massachusetts due to their political background and ties in the community. His mother and father were very loving and caring and provided a comfortable life for their kids. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>He graduated from Choate and entered Harvard in 1936, where his older brother, Joe, was already a student. Like his brother he played football but while playing he ruptured a disk in his spine. He was active in student groups and sports and he worked hard in his history and government classes. Late in 1937, Mr. Kennedy was appointed United States Ambassador to England and because of his father’s job, he became very interested in European politics and world affairs. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After graduating he joined the Navy.  He was made Lieutenant and assigned to the South Pacific as commander of a patrol torpedo boat, the PT-109. He had a crew of twelve men whose mission was to stop Japanese ships from delivering supplies to their soldiers. On the night of August 2, 1943, a Japanese destroyer rammed the PT-109, splitting it in half and killing two men. He saved Patrick McMahon, one of his crew members, and led his men toward a small island several miles away. Seven days later the PT-109 crew was rescued, he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his leadership and courage. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1962 the United States discovered that the Soviet Union was building secret missile bases in Cuba. These missiles would be able to strike the U.S. with nuclear bombs. In the coming days the U.S. and the Soviet Union came close to nuclear war. The U.S. quarantined Cuba in order to keep the missiles out. After negotiations, the Soviet Union agreed to dismantle the bases. In return, the U.S. agreed to never attack Cuba and to remove missiles from Turkey.</div>]]></description>

Also, JFK was a big fan of Cuban cigars and had his press secretary acquire 1200 of them the day before he signed the Cuban Embargo making all Cuban products illegal in the USA. </div>]]></description>
