When I see a facial injury, I instantly feel bad for the person. They usually look so painful and often produce a lot of blood whether they are severe or not. Everyone has been hit in the face at least once in their life and even getting hit lightly still hurts a lot, so I can only imagine what a severe injury would feel like. We really just need to keep in mind to not let the patient see our reaction to their injuries. We don't want to accidentally cause them panic.

Whenever I see a facial injury, even if it's minor I think of two things. That's gonna bleed a lot and that's gotta hurt a lot. Almost everyone has had a toothache and even those hurt quite a bit. I can't imagine the pain from a very serious facial trauma, like a gunshot wound or blunt force injury.

There's two types of people in trauma calls. With facial trauma I feel like it wouldn't hurt as bad as other body trauma. I also think thats with the adrenaline and how thin the skin is, thick the skull is.

Personally, I know I need to control my facial expressions a little bit more. Every time I've ran into a trauma they normally get a solid eyebrow raise and a big glance to my partner.

Facial trauma is somewhat of a fear of mine. There are so many important parts of you such as your eyes or nose that are very close to one another on your head. I know someone personally who went through massive facial trauma and they have needed many many surgeries since to try and repair what is left. I feel terrible for anyone who has to go through that.

Facial trauma to me is one of the worse traumas because not matter the severity there will be a lot of pain, swelling and bleeding. When I took a softball to the eye it looked worse than it actually was. Once the bleeding was under control the cut was minor. By that time my eye had swollen shut so we didn't know the damage there. With the amount of swelling I had there was concern of my eye socket and my cheek bone. Few days after the swelling was down enough for X-rays it showed nothing broken. Thankfully. But at the time it happened everyone was freaking out from the blood and I was freaking out from how bad it was hurting it seemed like there was more damage done. Always remain calm and remember facial trauma are bleeders and lastly keep facial expressions in check because your patient will be looking at you and if those expressions aren't good you will freak the patient out.

Brandie

I have a few areas that make me cringe when it comes to trauma, but the worst by a mile has to be the eyes. Whenever I see an eye injury, I can't help but cringe and be grateful it hasn't happened to me; these injuries always seem so painful and destructive because of how soft the eyes are. Further, the thought of losing my vision suddenly terrifies me; I can't begin to imagine all of the thoughts going through the head of someone faced with such a life-changing injury.
