Something I re-learned while attending the week 3 tutorial session was how all students have access to the Ontario Tech Library. This has been super helpful while navigating through University because I have come across many readings that I did not have access to, but was able to reach them through the library.

Something I find challenging about citing sources in academic context is what format to use for specific examples. During my high school years and my college program we used MLA. Jumping from MLA to APA has been challenging especially because of the small details that have to be adjusted, which require careful attention to the type of context being cited.

I relearned that slowing down and using database tools really helps in finding good sources. I’m still curious about picking the strongest sources without overthinking it. The hardest part is evaluating credibility quickly and making sure my APA citations are correct.

Something I relearned while attending the week three tutorial was the differences between primary sources and secondary sources in choosing reputable sources.

Something I'm curious about is how to write academic articles accurately while using references to strengthen paragraphs.

Something I find challenging when evaluating sources is finding Canadian resources on specific topics, which are hard to come by in Google Scholar or the OMNI library.

I re-learned to check my sources line by line. Just because articles have a date, author, and are written on a trusted site, doesn't mean they are a credible source. Peer-reviewed sources are the way to go!

I was learning the difference between popular and peer reviewed, sources for research and the term lateral read. I also learned more about CRAAP and how to use it in practice.

I relearned how useful OMNI search tools like filters and subject terms are for finding relevant, peer-reviewed sources. I’m still curious about how to quickly identify the strongest and most relevant sources for my topic. The most challenging part for me is evaluating sources efficiently and getting APA 7 citations right, especially when paraphrasing. I am still curious about how to confidently choose the most reliable sources for academic work. Week three reminded me that Ontario Tech has resources to guide me through this program. I just needed the boost and confidence to do so. With OMNI, I will be able to find scholarly journals and articles for my assignments. I continue to find APA style challenging so I am thankful to find support through Nool. Student work samples and links hava supported me in practising use of APA. I know that I am willing to learn, I will be successful. :)

Something I learned in this week’s tutorial was that we can access articles that are behind a paywall by using OMNI. I still find it challenging to locate different types of sources because I often feel like I need the exact keywords to find a specific article. Week 3 tutorial taught me that instead of relying only on Google, I should use the Ontario Tech Library and OMNI. Sometimes Google gives fast answers, but not all of them are academic or reliable. I learned that OMNI is actually easier to use when I filter for peer-reviewed, and full-text sources, because it helps me find stronger sources for my assignments. I also liked learning the difference between popular sources and scholarly sources. I still want to improve on how to quickly tell if a source is reliable, but I still need more practice with APA-style citations, especially in-text citations, because I always worry about messing them up.

Week 3 allowed us to understand the difference between a peer-reviewed article and a non-peer-reviewed informational article. I would like to know if we can cite articles from New York Magazine, which can also be accessed through OMNI, in our research papers, if there is no requirement for peer-reviewed articles? Microsoft Word is not updated to the 7th edition of the APA style. It can make formatting documents in the APA 7th edition difficult at times.

From the week 3 tutorial, I learned how to apply the CRAAP evaluation framework to distinguish between scholarly sources and public media articles, even when the topic is important. I am still curious about how to effectively locate peer-reviewed articles that discuss similar subjects like growth mindset and student success without depending on general search engines like Google. What I find challenging is determining whether a source is truly research-based, especially when articles are written by experts but published in a non-academic forum, and knowing how to properly cite academic sources using APA guidelines.

Something that I relearned was the power of quotations in a search, specifically within the Omni search tool. I did struggle a lot with an assignment a couple of weeks ago and finding a source, and the Ask a Librarian reintroduced me in a lighter way, and the week 3/4 tutorial really resparked my previous knowledge. As shown with the picture above it could turn a search from the common cold, being weather to "the common cold" meaning the illness.

I have learned to make sure that I cross reference any sources that I may be using for accuracy. I have learned more about APA 7 citations and the many resources offered through Ontario Tech to help me when I may need it like the Librarian and OMNI! In week 3, it was nice to have a refresher on using OMNI. I relearned how important it is to use keywords like "AND" or "OR" when searching to get better results. When completing assignments, I have learned to use only OMNI for research, as I can ensure they are credible, peer-reviewed articles. It showed me the importance of not assuming a source is credible just because it looks professional or appears high in search results. I am still curious about how to apply the CRAAP test efficiently when working under time constraints and how to evaluate sources that fall into grey areas, such as opinion pieces. One of the most challenging aspects of finding, evaluating, and citing sources in an academic context is determining credibility while avoiding bias, as well as properly citing sources in the correct format to maintain academic integrity.

In week 3 I found it nice to revisit OMNI, even though I am still unsure how searching works to my advantage. I find it so difficult to get sources that actually relate to what I am looking for, it takes a lot of time to weed out the ones I do not want.

I feel like when I started at ontario Tech, this was the first school where I found the layouts easy to follow and Canvas easy to navigate. In other classes I saw links for the library resources, and how to find and use certain tools available. I found OMNI, and saw all the features it had like advanced search, or searching for articles ffrom the last couple years. I understand the importance of research, so I made it a personal goal to watch all the library videos and resources to be able to find research when I need. I dont want to avoid resarch or finding it daunting, so will make it part of my goals to become well versed in my OMNI searching.

Something I learned, talked about in high school but not really a lot, but the difference between peer vs non-peer reviewed academic sources. Peer-reviewed academic sources are better to use because they are more widely used, adding better credibility. I think I finally understand the process of APA and all the citation regulations. I was using the OMNI to get all my information, but I never understood what came next to complete APA and complete it correctly. Last semester, it felt like it was assumed that we knew APA formats. Now that I know how to dissect an article, I understand what I need for the citation.

The week 3 asynchronous work reminded me to check the validity of all sources. This is obviously time-consuming but if you're resharing or giving thought to concepts found in social media posts or random websites, it's vital to consider who is giving the information and WHY they're sharing it.

I learned that great ways to verify my sources. I almost always use peer-reviewed articles for my research, which I know I can trust. It was good to learn however, how to fact-check which questions like:

1) who is behind the info

2) what is the evidence for the claim

3)What do other sources say about the organization and its claims

These are good questions to ask when not using peer-reviewed sources.

I learnt a lot about how to set myself up to be a better student and researcher! Finding solid peer-reviewed sources and learning how to distinguish whether or not a source is peer-reviewed are ways I can strengthen information literacy. There are so many ways to approach searching for information. This week's module gave many ways, with examples, on how to ensure your search is effective and accurate. The 6 main concepts of information literacy provided me with a great understanding and knowledge that I can keep in mind for Assignment 3.

As well as the part of the module where popular and scholarly sources were compared and explained. This is something that I find valuable to keep in mind, especially while taking in so much information on your phone through social media.

I’ve always liked comparing more than one source when researching a topic to see if the information is consistent. Through this exercise, I learned that this strategy is called lateral reading. Instead of relying on just one article, I now understand the importance of checking other sources to confirm the information and better evaluate its credibility.

During this exercise, I also learned to look more closely at the editor, author, and the organisation or company behind the publication. This helps me understand the purpose of the article and whether there could be any bias or specific motivation behind the content.
