I often feared for my life due to the increase in gang violence over the years. One day I unknowingly crossed paths with a gang member badly putting me on there hit list. So I know it was time to flee the country and apply to become a refugee in columbia.

Border crossing was fairly smooth and after arriving I applied for refugee status through Colombia's authorized offices. Thankfully to no application fees the cost was only around $120 due to only paying for gas and basic snacks. Since I had a family friend that already lives there I was able to live with her in a small town house. My biggest challenges was getting a stable income job and being faced with discrimination. Colombia will not be my first option as a final destination simply to the fact that the job market is very competitive and is a neighboring country of venezuela with many of gangs transferring into Colombia.
