I think that learning to learn is really the foundation of all learning and students should acquire this competence before getting to the secondary school. This could prevent them from failure. But this is all teachers' responsibility and some teachers aren't collaborative at all!

I used portfolios some years ago but it required too much time. Maybe e-portfolios are better.
