2) We conducted lessons for the elderly, teaching the elderly how to design a mug that they can use at home. Throughout the planning process, we came into 3 different groups to handle this project and everything goes well. We managed to guide the elderly how to design the mug effortlessly and they cooperated well with us

Some other elderly are good at drawing so they used their phones to search for their favourite designs through internet.

After the elderly practiced drawing on the paper, they will begin to draw on a mug with markers.
It was difficult for some elderly to draw on their mugs so we assisted them while they were drawing.

For example, when they want a different colour of marker, we will help them to ask around for the coloured marker they wanted so they would only need to focus drawing on the mugs.

In the end, they managed to finish decorating their mugs and some of the elderly received presents for their wonderful piece of work.

The programme was held during the post-mye period in the classroom. When the elderly came, some of us went down to the foyer to fetch the elderly to our class. On the first day, we had some ice breaker games to know the elderly more so we would not be too awkward. Afterwards, we let the elderly to choose their design that would be drawn on the mug and sketch on a piece of white paper first as a draft and gauge for the elderly. On the second day, we executed the actual drawing on the mug. While the elderly are drawing, we were helping out the elderly if they face any difficulties. Time was fast and we ended on a good note and call it a day.

In the beginning, i felt nervous because i was scared if i could not able to communicate well with the elderly who i paired with. I thought it was hard to talk to the elderly but we still managed to talk a lot of things like what the elderly usually do when she bored and it was interesting to listen to her talking about her daily life. I realised that many elderly actually know how to use the internet to search for some designs for the activity. I also learnt to communicate with the elderly despite the generation gap.

At the start of the VIA, it was very awkward between the elderly and I. The initial mindset I had towards the elderly was that they were very traditional and do not know about recent trends. But after two days of interacting with the elderly, I found out that they are pretty up-to-date with technological advancements and internet trends. I also learnt how to communicate better with the elderly despite the generation gap.

The biggest thing i learnt from the C3A is that i discovered that many elderly were not as stubborn and traditional as we thought. We could even share a common topic if we know them better. It is also very important to be patient towards them as it is also something that we must have in future when we interact with the others

at first i assumed that i couldn’t communicate well with the elderly as i assumed that i wouldn’t have a common topic to talk about. but after the C3A project, i discovered that the elderlys are pretty up to trend and can actually converse with us and are really friendly. they had alot of good ideas that even we wouldn’t think of it so we shouldn’t just assume that just because they are old, they are oudated.
