The theme of this poem, is depression and loneliness. The line, that we chose and that was "My husband is away and I don't know where he is" that once portrayed something powerful, about feeling helpless, and she doesn't know what to do without him.

6 - Powerful Imagery

This poem does not contain too much powerful imagery, but where it has some, it conveys the message very well. The main idea the author wanted the reader to take away is sadness, loneliness, and crying. On line 8, the short phrase of "Suddenly you burst into tears;" creates a vivid image of someone crying their heart out, just as the author intended.

9- Metaphor

A metaphor used in this poem is, "And more than once: you can't keep weaving all day. And undoing it all through the night;" (Line 3 and 4) The meaning, is technically saying the writer can't hold in their emotions all day, and let it out at night.

10 - Compare Contrast to Odyssey. Does it convey a different Perspective? What is emphasized or absent in each piece

This poem is from the viewpoint of a Penelope like figure in a more modern time. It conveys a very similar perspective as shown in the Odyssey as Penelope waits a long time for Odysseus to come home. This poem really emphasizes the feeling of derelict and desolation. In the original Odyssey poem, it does not appear to show these feelings of Penelope too much, as they often focus on the male hero characters. This poem also lacks the feeling of hope for Odysseus that is shown in the Odyssey.
