There are quantities of human beings, but there are many more faces, for each person has several. - Rainer Maria Rilke

This module, specifically the section on the dramaturgical approach, allowed me to better tackle one of the questions that keeps me up at night; in performing different roles and acting differently depending on the people I’m around, do I lose my true self?

I realize now that the performances are a reflection of my true self, adjusting behavior and speech patterns for the context. My true self cannot fully change, though the portion of my true personality and humor that I show changes depending on my relationship to the individual I’m with. I should also add that though performances cannot fully change the true self, performances can affect each other. I can take aspects of my personality that I like and adjust the performance to show it more (i.e. crack more jokes).
