What I learnt...

The space is currently under construction to build a new parkland - expected opening date September this year (end of 2021).

There is exisiting wood from the Wharf that could be recycled and used in the project.

Located right next to Eat Street which opened end of 2017.

Ideally they want to create a greater attraction for the public to visit Northshore during the day, not just nighttime for Eat Street.

Need to be mindful of Sustainability and have the ability to move and adjust overtime.

Currently use a lot of industrial and recycled materials such as shipping containers.

- Collaborating with Local Indigenous Artists to create many or one large didgeridoo. With many, it can create a pathway that tells the history. The Brisbane City Council currently run an Indigenous Art Program where they exhibit the art of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. It is a free event, open to all ages and will be held May 2021.

The Australian Silo Art Movement began in Northam, Western Australia, in 2015. The Silo Trail has since grown to include 44 Artworks. This movement has been extremely beneficial for the towns included in the Trail, with many followers of the website and social platforms making their way to the towns to see the artworks for themselves. For example, Devenish’s silo art attracted 1,700 visitors in one week (North East Living Magazine, 2018).

HOW WOULD IT BENEFIT NORTHSHORE?

By being included in the Australian Silo Art Trail, it will attract visitors to Northshore to enjoy the large outdoor gallery. As Northshore is not classified as Regional it might not be eligible for the Trail. The Native Path will also create a unique and interesting aspect for the public to enjoy. The residents located at Hamilton Reach range from young adults to mature citizens. There are also a number of families that can be found living in, or visiting on the weekends. The stakeholders, which include; residents, eat street stall owners, and Northshore Cafe employees and visitors.

The target audience for this project are the (B2C) Destination Visitors, who are always looking for new things to do. With the link to the Silo Movement, destination visitors will be instantly attracted and intrigued by the new site.

By collaborating with local Brisbane Indigenous artists and elders, the project will ethically and effectively engage the local Aboriginal community, while also actively sustaining and growing attraction and attendance from the target audience.

Silo Art can stimulate both unintentional conversations through the media and in personal encounters through word of mouth. Although, considering the size of the Silo's in question, many being on a larger scale to the Northshore Silo, this could decrease the price as it will be a smaller canvas to paint. There is also factors to consider such as the landscaping and digital installations. The project will fit in with the budget and timeframe of the brief.

This project has the option to be a one off, although I would make the suggestion to allow for adaption over the years. This concept will create a new way for the community of Brisbane to understand and learn about the rich Indigenous history. The installation, located on and around the Silo, will celebrate local artists through a collaboration with the Brisbane City Council’s Indigenous Art Program. It will include interactive art displays, Didgeridoos that stand as speakers to present oral storytelling for the public, as well as a pathway to represent the native terrain of flora and fauna that once lined the Brisbane River.
