* When writing about the pattern in your results, mention the x-axis variable first and then the effect that has on the y-axis variable.
* Use the specific name of the variable the exam board has given.
*Give numerical examples to back up the pattern.
*Talk about when the change is most rapid and when it is slower.
*For the graph below, you might write
"As the time in days increases, the counts per minute decreases. The decrease is fastest between days 1-3 and then slows down. The decrease is at its slowest between days 7-10."

Calculating the mean from a graph

Draw a tangent on the part of the line you need to calculate the average from. Draw a right angled triangle using that line (see below - it is the same technique as measuring the rate) and calculate the change in y value divided by the change in x value:

Calculating percentages

See the link below to practice calculating percentages. Remember, you may be asked to calculate a percentage increase or decrease. To do that, divide the number the value has increased by, by the original number and then multiply the answer by 100. For example, if a value has increased from 50 to 60, the number it has increased by is 10. 10 divided by 50 and then multiplied by 100 is 20. The number has increased by 20%.
