In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio, the protagonist of the story is August Pullman. Some of Auggie's character traits include being hideous and smart. He's hideous because of his facial deformity. He is very ugly and gets made fun of a lot because of it. He is very smart because, even though Auggie was home schooled for a while he still gets good grades and is very intelligent. Some evidence from the text showing how August is hideous is on page 3, when it says,"My name is August by the way. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever your thinking it's probably worse." August explains that he's ugly, but whatever your are thinking, he's probably uglier then that. Some evidence showing that Auggie's intelligent is on page 142, when Jack Will says,"...He's really smart. I thought he would be behind everyone because he hadn't gone to school before. But in most things he's ahead of me." Auggie can catch up in school easily because he is very smart. In Wonder there is also a deuterogonist, Jack Will. Some of Jack's character traits include being sympathetic and dense. Jack is sympathetic because he felt sympathy for Auggie and helped him around Breech Prep. On page 141 it says,"It was because when I heard Jaime talking about how he had run away from August going 'Ahhh' , and I suddenly felt really bad." Jack felt sympathy towards Auggie because of other people's reactions towards him. Jack is dense because he gets bad grades and is unintelligent. Some evidence from the text showing how Jack is dense is on page 142 when it says, "...He also lets me cheat off him if I really need to." Jack has to copy off of Auggie which proves his unitelligence. As you can see, the protagonist and deutoragonist have very intersting character traits.

In Wonder, a realistic fiction novel by R. J. Palacio, the story is told in first person point of view. Since the story is told in first person point of view I can understand the story much better. This can help me understand the story because I could see what the characters are thinking and feeling. I could also see how the characters changed throughout the story. As you can see, Wonder is a story told in first person point of view.

Theme

In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio, the theme of the story is, acceptance is the best form of kindness. This theme means that if you accept someone like August it will make them feel really good about themselves. It relates to Wonder because when no one accepted August , he felt horrible, but when Jack and Summer accepted him he felt good. For example, on page 51 it says,"Hey is this seat taken" I looked up and a girl I never saw before was standing across from my table with a lunch tray full of food." Summer accepted Auggie by looking past his deformity and seeing his personality instead. This small action of Summer made Auggie feel really good. As you can see, a theme of Wonder is, acceptance is the best form of kindness.

In the realistic fiction novel Wonder by R. J. Palacio, August, Julian, Via, Jack, Mom, and Dad are all important characters. The setting is New York City, but mostly takes place at home and at school. The conflict of the story is Auggie's deformed face which is an internal conflict. This is the major conflict because Auggie has a hard time with his deformity and hates how his face looks. In the rising action of Wonder , August goes to school for the first time and has a rough time with a bully named Julian. At first no one accepts Auggie despite Summer and Jack Will. A bit later, there is an incident with Jack and Auggie and they don't become friends again until a while later. After that the kids at Breecher Prep. got used to Auggie's face and Auggie goes on a scool trip to a nature retreat. At the nature retreat, the climax happens.August, Jack, and Amos, Miles, an Henry get into a mini fight with a group of 7th graders and Auggie loses his hearing aides. When everybody gets back from the nature retreat, the falling action comes. There's a big shift at school where Amos becomes popular because of the fight and Julian becomes way less popular. Also, everybody is kind to Auggie now. Finally, in the resolution, Auggie graduates from fifth grade and wins a major prize for being a really good student. Also, in the resolution, August doesn't care about his face for the first time. As you can see, Wonder has a very interesting plot line.

I would rate Wonder, a realistic fiction novel by R. J. Palaciio 1/2 of a star. I would rate Wonder half a star because it wasn't my type of book. It had some good elements in the story, but the overall conflict isn't interesting. In my opinion the story was just about a kid going to school. In conclusion, Wonder, was not a good novel and I rate it 1/2 of a star.
