Everyone else on the farm understand they are living as slaves while the boy's are happily thinking they are living the dream. The boy's are just the "Fresh Meat" inside the farm that hasn't become miserable yet. In the text Deo and Innocent's friend they had met Philani stated, "They have became slaves on the Flying Tomato Farm, Deo. If they complain about the pay, Gerber will hand them over to the South African police" (Williams 125). Even though Deo is an incredibly smart boy for his age and Innocent is amazing great with numbers. I believe they have gotten themselves into some trouble with working on the farm. I think he did that for unexpectedly showing up at his house but was still unnecessary. Then all the guy does is say rude comments and threatens to beat them and making them sleep on the floor.
