In English 1 students are reading "Romeo and Juliet" and "The Odyssey." I wanted a way to record each chapter/scene so that students with a reader could listen to the books independently. I decided to use vocaroo.
My students have been able to use it without any difficulties and can listen to the passage as often as the need to, to be able to complete assignments and comprehend the text.
(Anika Hoglen)

(Brittany Buckner) A Google Chrome extension called Toucan is a really neat tool for anyone trying to learn a new language. Toucan takes the browser you are on and translates a few words on the screen. It will highlight them in blue and you can scroll over it to see the English meaning. It is a great way to casually have students see Spanish in their daily lives. Click on the photo below to see what the instructions to the Pineapple Challenge look like with Toucan on! - Buckner

(Brittany Buckner) Have you heard students talking about the game "Among Us"? I did a poll in all of my classes and ~130/150 of my students have played the game before. GimKit has taken the game Among Us and made it an educational tool. There are imposters and crewmates. The goal is to get rid of all the imposters in the game by holding investigations. Students must earn power by answering questions to do investigations. There is a discussion aspect that will keep engagement up with students! It can take anywhere between 20-50 minutes, so if you want to review terms or vocabulary for an entire class period, here is the solution! Do you want to play with my class? Email me for a a Zoom link to my 4th, 5th or 6th period! - Buckner

Wonder Week Projects

To wrap up our lessons on meat products and processing I assigned a wonder week project. Students were given the big topic of "meat products and process." They then developed a wonder statement. This is something that they are curious about. It could be anything from "I wonder how bacon is produced" to "I wonder what chemicals are used to preserve meat." The possibilities are basically endless. Students then researched and created a "final product" outlining their wonder statement, questions to research, and interesting facts they found along the way. As a way for them to share they had to post their final product to Padlet and on Friday they were/are asked to review a minimum of four other post and provide professional/respectful comments.

Wonder Projects are a tool from John Spencer and although I am not an expert I am definitely going to be utilizing this method more frequently in class. He has free materials on his website. https://spencerauthor.com/wonder-week/

Alex Skidmore
