I have learned so much about how children learn and develop. I have done assignments where I researched the development associated with a certain type of activity, such as outdoor play. I also learned about what children need to develop well, such as self-efficacy and secure attachments. I also have learned about how their temperament relates to their development.

Why Did I Choose Early Childhood Education?

I have loved working with children ever since I started volunteering at my church’s Sunday School. Over the years, I’ve worked as a babysitter, kid’s camp leader, nanny, and JK/SK Sunday School teacher. Then, in September of 2023, I began working in an infant room at Montessori by Brightpath. I learned so much there and realized my passion specifically for the learning that goes on in early childhood. I wanted to learn as much as the RECEs I worked with so I could do better to assist the children in their learning. So I decided to take the ECE program at Fanshawe College.

I have demonstrated my knowledge about advocating and supporting refugee families in the Reflective Activity 2. During reflective activity 3, I understood the impact of a centre's setup and organization have on a family's first experience in coming to a centre and how much it means when they have a great, welcoming experience.

I have learned about program development through classes and their assignments. I took an observation from placement, interpreted it, and created a plan for the next activities to build on learning. I also made a video and a paper on singing the book 'The Animal Boogie.' I explained how I implemented it and what development benefits it has.

I did a project researching to understand refugee families, to better understand. In another, I discussed stress during pregnancy. I also interview a family in childrare.

I have learn about how important relationships are to a child's development. I made a pamphlet on secure attachments, where I learned that children do best when they have a stable, healthy adult in their lives. I also completed a project on Self-Efficacy, where I learned about how children learn from who they are around, about how they should feel about themselves.
