Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913 in Tuskegee Alabama. She grew up at her grandparents farm in the nearby town of Pine Level. She went to a local African-American school where her mother was a teacher. One day, Rosa refused to give up a seat to a white man. This caused the Montgomery Bus Boycott. African-Americans stopped riding buses and walked or carpooled to get places. The boycott lasted 381 days. During her life, Rosa earned the Congressional Gold Medal of Freedom, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and even her high school diploma! To remember her, we read books about her (example: the autobiography "Rosa Parks: My story) and we can even visit the exact bus that she got arrested on! (At the Henry Ford Museum.) Rosa Parks made a big impact on segregation and is still known as a symbol of freedom and equality today.

Rosa parks were born in Tuskegee, Alabama, USA, February 4, 1913. At the time ‘Jim Crow laws’ – a set of laws introduced in the late 19th century that claimed to give African Americans “separate but equal” status and treatment. But, in truth, there was no ‘equality’. Rosa decided to do the right thing. She and her husband joined NNACP(National Association for the Advanment of Coloured People). When the driver said make a seat to the white man Rosa didn't obey. So she got arrested. She and her husband moved to a city named Detroit to live with her brother. There she continued to promote civil rights and help those suffering from discrimination and injustice. She continued to support the NAACP and many civil rights events.
