One example I am already thinking is similar to what you are doing is using it for students to post reflections on the days lesson. 
I really liked the to do list wall paper I saw in one video I watched and can see using it for planning purposes and also using it to teach students how to plan as well.
One advantage is this is a way for students to share their thoughts and for others to be able to reflect on them.
Another advantage is that it is really simple.
A disadvantage is the internet issue. This can be overcome by making sure that you give students ample time for the assignment/reflection so they can use the internet at school if they don't have it.
A teacher needs to set strict guidelines for using this as it is a avenue that students could use to cyberbully.

Disadvantages:
- May be difficult to find specific notes.
- On a related note, the Padlet may become too "busy", which may be overwhelming for some people.

Disadvantages:
Padlet just deleted my note!
Commenting is incorporated in so many other platforms, students may not want to go to padlet just to leave comments.
