In this article, I am going to share why it is important to participate in this programme, what activities you can be involved in to be a EcoKnight and how we teenagers can reach out to the community and spread the message of being eco-friendly. You can take care of the environment by taking part in zero waste activities such as beach cleaning and by informing your friends and family about the importance of having a zero waste life.

To begin with, it is very important to take part in Zero-Waste related activites as it shows our care towards the enviroment. By participating in activities such as beach cleaning, you are helping to contribute towards Singapore's ecosystem and protects the environment. Taking care of the environment will be helpful in the long run and reduce actions that contribute to the environment.

The first activity that you should participate is beach cleaning at East Coast Park. You should volunteer in community that supports eco-friendly environment and provides care and support for people to clean the beach. For example, you are recommended to participate in this activity with your friends and family to make it more enjoyable. Therefore, by participating in this activity, you are able to bond with your family and friends while helping to clean the environment and making eco-friendly.

The second activity you can do is to give out flyers or brochures to inform them about an event where you make a structure out of recyclable items and there will be prizes for the top 3 participants. This event will be held at a community centre where everyone is invited to showcase their sculpture. The posters must consist of information about the zero waste activity and also have to be attractive and convincing for the community to take part in. The posters can be paste in each lift of every block in the neighbourhood. Thus, this will alert and notify the residents living in the community.

If you are interested in this programme and willing to carry out the activities suggested, you will have the chance of being recognised and getting the eco knight award.
Playing a Part In Saving The Environment (Builds Interest)

By: Jie Ying, Nazeera, Syifa, Jun Feng, Naufal and Luis
Environment Ambassadors
4E4

Did you know, our environment is dying as we speak? Everyone can do their part in saving the environment. No matter how big or small their contributions are, it will make up the bigger picture. Maintaining a zero-waste environment is the first step to help save the environment. That is why I am here today to introduce to you about the EcoKnight SG programme. EcoKnight SG is a programme initiated by Central Singapore Community Development Council and NEA community where it aims to nurture a community of EcoKnight SG who are concerned about the environment and they are also giving out awards to recognize the individuals who are concerned about the environment and have done their part in helping to achieve a Zero Waste Singapore. Participating in zero-waste activities can help save the environment. Activities like putting up posters and recycling usable materials are some of the ways that can be done.

It is important to participate in zero waste activities so that we can preserve our environment, so our future generation can enjoy a world without seeing litter everywhere they go. For example , through zero waste activities , we can cultivate good habits in people to be responsible of their own litter , and make sure they clean up after themselves. Hence , by participating in zero waste activities , we can ensure that future generations get to enjoy a litter-free world to live in.

The first activity that you can participate in is recycling activities. For instance, instead of throwing your plastic bottles, you can put them in the recycling bins catered around the school. You can also encourage yourself to practice the 6Rs-
Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Repurpose and Recycle. You should refuse unnecessary items that can contribute to waste. Reuse and Repurpose old items that can still be used so as to prevent wastage. Therefore, this activity can help in achieving the Level 1 recognition award - 'EcoKnight' which is for individuals who cares for the environment within his/her personal or immediate boundary on a monthly basis.

Saving the environment should not only be limited to the efforts made in school. It should also include the community within the local estate or neighbourhood. You can reach out to your neighbours to spread the message by simply taking the initiative to print and put up posters around the void decks. The posters should include ways to help save the environment together. The poster promotes activities such as picking up litters together and planting lots of tress in an area in your neighbourhood over the weekends. Planting new trees is a great way to let nature take whole again and get a group of neighbours working together. Trash that is not bound for recycling or a landfill often ends up in a stream which can harm aquatic life. Hence, you and your neighbours can carry a small trash bag to pick up waste around your neighbourhood. This can help you attain a Level 2- EcoKnight Commander award which is for individuals who cares and organises Zero-Waste-related programmes or projects within a particular community on a fortnightly basis.

One way that we can promote a zero waste environment is by reaching to the Residents community (RC) during festive events such as mid autumn festival, we can encourage residents to bring recyclables such as red packets to do arts and crafts. For example , they could make lanterns and festive decorations with these recyclables ! Hence , we can spread the message by reaching out to communities such as the Residents’ corner.

In conclusion, no matter how big or small your contribution are, it will determine the state of your country. Activities like recycling, picking up litter, planting trees as well as using recyclables will definitely help play a part in saving the environment.

What are you waiting for ? Sign up as an EcoKnight to be a part of the EcoKnight SG Youth Programme. For more enquiries, you can visit the EcoKnight SG's facebook page. I hope you would consider taking part and help achieve a zero-waste country.

A Clean and Zero-Waste Singapore (Appeal to Senses)

By: Kelly, Sherlyn, Jayne, Jobelle, Joelle , Atikah
Environment Ambassadors
4E4

How would you feel if our environment is full of waste and is making a negative impact? I am sure every one of us would like to do our part in ensuring a clean and green environment. Well , today I will be sharing a few activities which will have an impact on the environment. These activities will lead to a sight for sore eyes. The scenery will leave you breathless as you take it in,the feeling of having no rubbish around will leave a sense of satisfaction. Knowing this, the air will seem fresher and cleaner. With these sensations, we should carry activities like recycling and reusing. In this article , you will be able to learn about more about living a Zero-Waste lifestyle and how you and your friends can play a part in achieving a zero waste singapore.

To begin with , It is important to participate in this programme as living a Zero Waste Lifestyle can benefit our environment as it reduces climate impact , conserves resources as well as minimises pollution. Therefore , it is important that everyone plays their part in contributing a Zero Waste Singapore.

One activity that students should take part in is picking up litter in the local neighbourhood. This can be organised to be carried out monthly as a class to reduce the amount of waste. Students will know how hard it is to keep our environment waste-free. This small action of picking up litter is something everyone should, and this can influence others like the neighbourhood residents or family members. If everyone plays their part, our environment would be cleaner and waste-free. Anyone can take the initiative to start. Take the oppurtunity to start and encourage others to do it with you. Furthermore, you can earn the Level 1 EcoKnight through doing this activity monthly. Thus, this is a highly encouraged project for students to carry out.

Another suggested activity is the 6Rs Combat. It is an activity where one is challenged to use all the 6Rs - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Repurpose and Recycle, within a day. For example, when you go to a supermarket, bring a recyclable bag and refuse using plastic bags. When the zip of the pencil case is spoilt, repair the zip to avoid throwing something useful away when it can be fixed . This will hence help us to be more aware of things that we use daily. And if we are aware, everyone would be more environmentally friendly and we would have a zero waste environment.

Lastly, you should spread the message to others! Students can make a short video about activities that can be carried out to help kickstart people’s zero waste journey. They can also spread the word and video through social media and easily encourage others to carry out the activities with you and join the EcoKnights Community.

If you are interested to be an EcoKnight now , you can visit it’s facebook page called EcoKnight Sg to find out more!Thank you for reading and i hope you are now more interested about Zero-Waste activities and will do your part in contributing to a Zero-Waste Singapore!

By: Rachel, Jasmine, Phionna, Jiashan, Terra, Zhe Yan
Environment Ambassadors
4E4

Have you heard of the Knight saving the world instead of the princess? What if you can be the Knight saving the world? Well, the Central Community Development Council and NEA Community Relatious Department (Central Branch) have organised a youth programme called the EcoKnight SG. The aim of this project is to encourage people to care for the environment and to go zero- waste. In this article, i will be sharing with you the activities that can be done to practice zero waste lifestyle and the importance of going zero waste.

To start off, going zero waste, you can save the environment by reducing the amount of carbon footprint produced during decomposition of wastes.Additionally, you can feel a sense of acomplishment ,when lesser things undergoes decomposition, reducing the effect of climate change. I trust that no one wants their kids to live in a bad state of Singapore in the future, hence, everyone should play a part in keeping keeping the environment clean. If we are considerate and produce a large amount of waste, we will increase global warming and in the future ,many people could suffer due to our incosiderate acts. Hence ,everyone is responsible in keeping the country clean and preventing Singapore from created large amount of waste.

First, you can start of small by starting as an individual who works to care for the environment within your own boundary. You can always do little things first so as to start off a Zero Waste habit. For example, you can start at home by sorting out your waste into recyclable items. Then, your can bring these recyclable items to the recycling bin near your block or house. Therefore, always start small and work your way up to become more eco-friendly. This will definitely contribute to make the environment a more favourable one as a beautiful environment starts from you.

There are many things you can do to go zero waste. The first activity you can do is when packing your closet and happened to find some clothes that are considering to throwing away, pack those clothes together and pass it to your relatives that may be able to wear them or even donate it to the orphanage as they are one of the groups of people that need it. So, instead of throwing out clothes that can still be worn, give it to people to reuse and also prevent large amount of waste being contributed.

Moreover, everyone in school can contribute in reaching out to the community by creating a advertisment online and promoting through online platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Additionally, we can also go to kindergarten and educate the childrens about saving the environment and how we can execute it. We can plan different activities for the kindergarten children to participate in as children nowadays are more active. By creating this kind of activities more children will be able to remember the ways to save the environment and carry it out.

For more details or if you have any enquires, please visit Ecoknight SG's Facebook page to join and be one of our Ecoknight. What are you waiting for hurry up and sign up today!

By:

Juliana, Jia en, Nasir, Sean, Eng Jun

Environmental Ambassador of JunYuan Secondary School

Have you ever looked at a pre-loved item or something you threw out and wondered if it could have been used for something else in the future ? By reducing waste , we can also play a part in preventing global warming by reducing the need for production of brand new items that contribute to global warming in the process.

The EcoKnight SG is an initiative by Central Singapore Community Development Council and the NEA Community Relations Department that aims to create a community of people that cares and champions a Zero Waste Environment lifestyle. There is an Ecoknight SG award which recognises passionate and proactive individuals who contributes selflessly and help achieve a Zero Waste Singapore.

Firstly, when participating in zero waste related activities, it helps reduce pollution and the production of greenhouse gasses. When we create waste and it is burned, a lot of greenhouse gasses is then produced, resulting in our daily lives being affected. For example, global warming is affecting our daily lives by the increase of average temperatures which may raise the sea levels as the hotter temperature will melt the ice caps and mountain glaciers. Another effect is that animals are changing their migration patterns and plants are changing their dates of activities such as trees budding their flowers in the spring and dropping them later in the fall. Therefore, by participating in Zero Waste related activities, we get to help reduce the production of greenhouse gases.

Secondly, you can choose any schoolmates to work with but between four to five people in a team. At the end of every week, all teams have to bring their recyclables to the teachers and calculate the amount of items that have been recycled. At the end of every month, the team with the most amount of recycled items will win a Popular voucher worth ten dollars each. Hence, this will be an incentive for more students to make the effort and a habit to recycle.

Thirdly, you could initiate a zero waste activity with your local community. For example, you could plan an activity where your schoolmates go around the neighbourhood to collect unwanted items like old clothes or shoes from households. These items can then be donated to the those in need of it more like the elderlies and foreign workers who are struggling to support themselves. Moreover, this activity will reduce unnecessary waste.

So Why Not Do Your Part In Helping The Environment? Join The EcoKnightSG Programme And Be A Part Of The Movement Against Waste. In this article, you can learn about the importance of participating in Zero-Waste activities, some activities that you can participate in, and also 🤬 to reach out to the community about Zero-Waste.

Participating in Zero-Waste activities is important as right now, Mother Earth is suffering from the toxic waste that people leave behind at beaches, parks and other areas. Reducing, reusing and recycling can be a key part of a climate change strategy to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions, which reduces the impact of greenhouse gases on the atmosphere. For example, wjen plastic waste is incinerated, it creates a gas that damages the ozone layer, which causes global warming and climate change. Therefore, participating in Zero-Waste activities is crucial.

One activity you can participate in is the Beach Clean-Up. You can go to a nearby beach to help pick up rubbish like plastic bottles, cans, plastic bags that people leave behind. This helps to reduce the amount of waste left behind at the beach. For example, you can do this activity with your friends and family to educate them on the importance of a Zero-Waste environment. Hence, by participating in this activity with your family and friends, you can all achieve the Level 1 EcoKnight Award through doing this activity regularly.

Another activity you can participate in is a recycling project.
