We can see throughout this film, the entire trip, Sheryl keeps telling the family that no matter what happens to them, they are a family, and need to stick together. The film shows us that this satire comedy, that we have a lot of hard moments in the film, showing the realism when it comes to being in a family, while still showing the good parts of having your loved ones around you.

From the minute that Olive hears about her being able to be apart of the "Little Miss Sunshine" pageant, we are constantly taken on this wild ride with Frank and the Hoovers. They show us in the film the hardships that they had to go through, on the highway, the car slowly breaking apart as they get closer to California, having to make pits stops to refill gas and eating for energy for the trip ahead, to just being in the vehicle itself with the main characters, The Motel that the family is staying at to get their rest, reacting and joking with one another throughout the whole trip.

No- When you think of characters on a typical road trip, you would think of a family that is well prepared. Usually, characters on road trips would pack the necessities, like sunblock, or towels, food, tools in case the car isn't working properly. We can see with Frank and the Hoovers, that they weren't at all ready for this trip, and they had so little luggage, seeming like they don't do this kind of stuff very often, or at all for that matter. They don't even seem like the type of people who would be well prepared for any situation that might happen to them as they get to their destination.

Yes- Tragic Comedies will have times in the film where we will have more light heated moments, and happy endings, while also having scenes with more serious tones, and Elevate language. We can see that in this film, When Frank is talking with Greg in the Bus, Frank is being Sarcastic towards Greg, Because he was so done with all of Greg's, "there are only winners," talk. We also get to see scenes with more of a serious tone. When Wayne realizes that he's color-blind, he starts to break down. When he finally speaks, he starts pointing out peoples faults, and showing us the truth of all these characters in their entirety, showing the anger and frustration that he feels.

Yes- The Way that Everyone has this Tragic comedy, that comes off as dark and sad, showing that even though that most of the these characters are going through something that is mentally scaring, or emotional hard, this film still finds a way to make the moment funny. This lightens up the mood of the film, even in the most tragic parts of the story. Frank especially, in the first part of the film, is sad and depressed, but still finds a way to make a comedic joke of the situation.

Olive is wanting to be "Little Miss Sunshine". Frank is so depressed that he doesn't know what to do with himself anymore. Edwin is obsessed with Cocaine and filling his pleasures. Richard is obsessed with being the best, and failure isn't in his vocabulary. Dwayne wants to be a pilot. Sheryl is tired of fighting with her husband all the time. They all have something that they want, and at the end of the film, we see that those don't matter anymore. They all learn that they need to be there for the people in their family, because they need each other.

No-This typically A Road trip Movie, would be someone in the family wanting to have the family going on a road trip to have a close family bonding experience. They make a lot of things that they pack into the vehicle, and get on the road, while going through trials and tribulations that the group or family go through. In this film, they family is doing this just so Olive, so that she can participate in the "Little Miss Sunshine" pageant. There is nothing in the plot that talks really about things wanting to be a road trip, that is meant for just the typical road trip story.

Yes- The family experiences going to motels, staying overnight, going out on the open highway that they are riding in on their really noticeable yellow 70's-looking vehicle that they drive in for the majority of the film. They also had pit-stops that were either at the gas station to stop for gas, or the diners that they were going to stop to eat at, so that they can continue their trip. They also have some hiccups with their vehicle, due to it being old, having to deal with that door, and how they need to push it to start it up.

They forgot Olive at the gas station, and they were playing that upbeat and funny worthy music. They also have a lot of trouble with the vehicle, due to the door keep falling off, and having to push the car, making it suspenseful and exciting for the audience.

Yes- There are a lot of times in this films where we get a wide view of the places that they travel to. We get a lot of shots of them as they are just driving down the highway, and seeing the scenery around them, seeing the endless land that goes beyond the horizon. Even in the vehicle, we get these wide shots of just the family, seeing how they are during this trip as they drive to the pageant, feeling invested in the conversations that the family is having while being in the van.

No- the plot of this film doesn't want you to think that this is entirely based on tragicomedy. In the film, they focus on having the characters grow and become more of a family, while a tragicomedy would just have the entire story be surrounded by sad and dark humor. Sure, the story has a little bit of that tragicomedy sprinkled into the story, but that is not the main plot factor that the director wants to show us.

For most of the film, there are a lot of bright colors, and not really showing the tragic side of this film, only through acting style does this film show the tragic side of the story. The only time I would say that it shows this, is by the music. The music is what mostly caries that type of sad and dark humor that is shown is this film.

The director wants to show us as an audience, that his family is with each other throughout the entire film. The wide shots of the family show us that this is the larger purpose of the film. Despite this family having their own demons that they are struggling with, they are doing all the can to stick together throughout the movie.
