M- I will do weekly trackings with myself to see if I am improving and what skills are working? What isn’t ?

A- During my work placement I will achieve goals and become more confident with myself teaching a class

R- I will plan to achieve my skills and goals by the end of February and hopefully can continue. This would be beneficial for my future goals.

T- I would like to gain basic teaching skills and to start to run a class on my own by the end of February and I will monitor myself and I will also check in with my employer.

I gained confidence during this process and also leadership, from taking charge of baby ballet. This made me feel enthusiastic and gave me a feel for teaching in the future.

As time went on, my lecturer seemed to gain confidence in my ability to work with the kids therefore asked me to take a junior ballet class. I found this challenging as this was out of my comfort zone and the experience was daunting. During this class, I gained more confidence in myself to set rules to my dancers and give them tasks.

Overall, this was a great experience and will continue to carry these skills i have gained.

Before I started work placement, i was able to get my PVG that allowed me to work with young kids, assisting their learning. I could've been more organised and made this happen sooner to avoid deadlines.

My long term goal was accomplished during my work placement as I gained basic teaching and assisting skills to help become a confident individual. These skills included - creative abilities, communication skills and leadership.

Lastly, my long term goal was to start assisting dance classes and become more familiar in the dance industry. This goal is being furthered and fortunately I have received feedback from my mentor and I have been asked to cover some classes and start a Freestyle Class to teach the younger squad.

SMART/

I feel I have definitely met my SMART goals, starting with helping out with classes which i managed to do during work placement. This went well as I had a lot of patience, enthusiasm and I was optimistic.

Secondly, I haven't met my weekly tracking's as much as I would've liked to, but I will continue to do this during my show rehearsals and fresh material. I will do this by taking a video of myself dancing the sequences and hopefully will see an improvement.

As part of the dance squad and seeing familiar faces throughout my time there, I gained confidence in being able to manage a class and take leadership. This is important to me because this is something I was worried about and for future work. My mentor and kids helped me feel at ease and believed in what I was teaching.

Since this, I have been asked for the company's help and have invited me to teach a 7-10 year old class, which has made me believe what I was doing worked and I need to believe in myself.

Day 1/ Attend work placement, introduce myself to the company and get to know the kids and staff. I observed the classes, ranging from abilities and different styles including: Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip hop and Adult Sensory classes.

- From this, I was able to have an understanding of the material and movements I could develop in the different age and ability groups.

Day 2/ On this day, I felt ready and focused and was eager to start assisting my mentor when she asked. After working with each other, and seeing my ability of dance, i was asked to teach a baby ballet class which did not include difficult technicality or strict instructions therefore i felt confident. During my teaching, I made sure to start with a warm up appropriate to the theme of the class, some travelling and ended with a cooldown in order for the heart rate to decrease.

-I learned patience and body awareness during this class.

Day 3/

On this day, it was great to see everyone again and I got straight in with assisting an Adult Sensory class, which was for adults on the spectrum looking to further their creativity in dance. This included doing a short hip hop dance and included singing to help these students get out their comfort zone in an appropriate manner.

- Skills gained from this class were leadership, assistance and patience.

I really enjoyed meeting people with different backgrounds and help them achieve their goals in dance.

I am a well driven student and was hoping to gain personal skills and developing knowledge that would have a positive impact on my teaching/assisting experience.

I created SMART goals and personal goals in order to help achieve what I was hoping to develop, such as creating a CV, assisting a class and even taking lead of a dance class which I portrayed during the process.

I have learnt a lot during the process and gained teaching skills along the way, which i can take into future work.

Physical skills - stamina, flexibility, strength.

Technical skills - Jazz, Contemporary.

Performance skills - musically & timing, projection, focus.

My goals for work placement were to :

• Be able to assist a class and be confident in using correct dance terms and to help improvements. - I did this by constantly saying attention to what was asked of the dancers so I could correct students or give them assistance on remembering movement.
