BioButton is a wearable device by Medtronic that continuously monitors one's vitals signs; this includes skin temperature, respiratory rate at rest, heart rate at rest, and other biometrics (Biobutton®* Multi-Parameter Wearable, n.d.). Together with remote patient monitoring, BioButton is part of Medtronic's Healthcast™ intelligent patient manager portfolio; this medical grade device "helps you stay in sync with every patient’s vital sign data and responding to their changing needs, no matter where they are, in-hospital or hospital-to-home" (Biobutton®* Multi-Parameter Wearable, n.d., Overview section). It's as simple as a small adhesive sticker that is attached to the BioButton device and then placed onto the patient's chest; this may reduce nursing burnout by decreasing manual vital sign collection and can improve patient outcomes by helping to identify any early interventions through adverse patient trends (Biobutton®* Multi-Parameter Wearable, n.d.). BioButton launched during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and was initially a single use device that could be disposed after 90 days, but starting in 2022 a re-launch was done where the BioButton can be re-used for even years with periodic charging (Park, 2022).

The hospital I work for currently uses the Biobutton and it has been implemented since the beginning of this year. It was a hard transition for many of us nurses including myself, such as forgetting to place one on newly admitted patients or getting one to sync to our EMR. But these are honestly small issues in comparison to the benefits that the Biobutton provides. Because it collects hourly vital signs, our nursing assistants only have to collect blood pressure once a shift or if needed; this is nice particularly working nightshift where patients don't like to be disturbed. It's also easy to trend vitals since a virtual nurse messages if anything is abnormal. When I have a busy shift with up to six patients, it can be hard to always keep an eye on vitals and abnormal readings, but with the Biobutton it's reassuring to know that someone else also has eyes on the patient as well. With that being said, I personally believe that many medical-surgical units would benefit from this device. It's a great way for both patients and nurses to feel reassured while it being small and discreet.

Per my strengths, I believe the empathy I have towards others allows me to be collaborative and insightful as I take into account other's feelings and opinions. The strength of input allows me to acquire information and knowledge. I am a very curious person who is always in search of new facts and data which I think would be beneficial in a team where a researcher is needed. In regards to intellection, I always try to think deeply about information and ideas, which I think will be helpful in creative thinking within a team. Restorative characteristics include problem solving and facing a problem head on. I think this perfectly describes me as I feel the need to complete tasks no matter what problems are ahead; this again I think is essential in a team where problems are inevitably going to be faced. And lastly, individualization is essential to a team because I truly see myself as someone who appreciates everyone for who they are. We all have unique traits and characteristics about ourself that we should embrace, and I fully advocate for that when working with a team.
