Beginners are recommended to buy altcoins through reputed exchanges to avoid fraud. 

Altcoins can be risky and approximately 92% of them managing to survive for an average of just 1.22 years on an average.  But they are very much worth investing. If you plan to speculate on untried or uncommon coins, divide your portfolio percentage accordingly into different risk layers. 

Several factors are to be accounted for like market reputation, an exclusive crypto or altcoin live on a particular platform. Find out the different traits of different altcoins and select an appealing one. 

The USD cannot purchase most altcoins. Hence, Bitcoins should be used to swap at the appropriate exchange for preferred altcoins. A few exchanges do allow credit card usage. 

On purchasing BTC, identify more exchanges to offer your altcoin. Avoid less popular exchanges. The popular ones are more liquid, thus enabling you to purchase quickly more altcoins.

Once registration is completed, move some BTC to new exchange. As you trade currency pairs, BTC gets exchanged for altcoins. Do check out the currency pair including its trading in the past few months or weeks.
