Recently, we've gotten away from an earlier routine of student talk. I've learned some fresh ideas for group role "possible statements" for each member to facilitate some part of the group work. Additionally, I've gone back to "whip around" ticket out the door. Students have the most important concept in their ticket out - and I get to finally talk to connect eye to eye with EACH student. They actually look forward to it! OH and I recently started quizzlet and holy moly it's great.

We recently did an activity suggested to me by Patty Marchello. It's called Rally Coach and it was useful for getting students to discuss a sequence for using a skill. In Rally coach, students are partnered and take turns being partner A and B. During each stage, Partner A verbally coach Partner B as they write out a step by step process. Partner B can only write what the other says. When they finish the problem, they switch rolls and do a new problem.
-AG

I have extended warm ups and call on students to share their answers and then write them down. I always do this when the warm up is review material. One thing I'm not including enough of is having them talk to one another.

Time. I have been behind all semester and properly implementing these strategies, I can't get through all my content. Some of my content is technical so it may take a couple of days of me instructing before they can take over and use the terms to put it together. The other issue is planning quality SST lessons with sentence frames and progressive structure can take hours or days. I already work 10-12 hours every day and my labs take hours of set up. I have to sleep sometimes.
