A film that I am very attached to after my first internship experience in the department of cystic fibrosis is "a meter from you.". Stella is a lively teenager who loves spending time with her friends, reading and posting new videos on the youtube channel. Everything would seem normal, except that his life is completely different from that of others: Stella is suffering from cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease acquired at birth that causes the presence of excess mucus in the lungs. A disease that requires scrupulous precautions and daily therapies, which without them can lead to death. But Stella, waiting for the lung transplant, looks at the therapy with courage and attention. Her existence is slow, in the Saint Grace hospital, populated by friendly faces such as, like that of Barb, friend and caring nurse and like that of her friend Poe, a boy also affected by FC. But one day, on the same floor, a dark-haired boy named Will shows up. He, another FC sufferer, does not have the energy of Stella because he is tired and disappointed to desperately chase the last experimental cure that could save him.

Stella and Will start dating, despite the nurse’s warning to stay away. In fact, cystic fibrosis patients cannot touch each other. Even more, a single sneeze or cough can compromise their already altered health. The fundamental rule they must follow is: one meter away at all times. It is a game of balances, or better still, of distances, that gives birth to the platonic love between the two. A love made of looks, small transgressions and video calls.

One day, Stella decides to run away from the hospital with Will. He could not choose a worse time: on the same night of the escape his lungs arrive ready to replace his, the girl still upset by the death of Poe, refuses them and immediately after, due to an accident he slips into a frozen pond. Will saves her by giving her mouth-to-mouth respiration, knowing that he’s putting her life in even more danger with a possible exchange of pathogenic bacteria from different strains. Stella and Will are rushed to the hospital. Stella is operated and the surgery is successful as it has not been infected by the bacterial strain of Will. The boy instead is told that his therapy is not working, so he is likely to die soon. As a last wish, Will surprises Stella and sends her farewell, giving her an album that contains many drawings that the boy has made during their brief acquaintance.
With this film I understood the importance of physical contact for humans, so we must not waste time to embrace those we love, because as the protagonist says: "death is unfortunately inevitable, but living a life to be proud of is something we can control".

It’s gonna be okay. Who knows how many times in the morning, after having opened his eyes, he remembered that life is no longer what it used to be and this sentence has been repeated.
I have not lost the confidence and hope to return to normality, because we live in a state-of-the-art country, with health institutions among the best in Europe and we cannot overlook the fact that we are in 2020, the digital age.

I believe that the increasingly sophisticated technology combined with the expertise of our scientists and biologists is our salvation. We too can help ensure that this situation improves by respecting the basic rules, which we can summarise with these emojis.

After I came to, I tried to talk, but I realized I couldn’t do it right.

TRIAGE NURSE: Don’t worry, wait in the waiting room and as soon as the doctor arrives you will be called for a check-up.

After waiting half an hour, the father and son were called by the doctor for a visit, and after having done a CT scan of the brain the doctor communicates the results.

THE DOCTOR: it’s nothing to worry about because the CT scan showed nothing. I only advise you to take supplements because surely you will miss the proteins, instead the difficulty in speaking is due to a maximum moment of stress caused by the fainting.

THE FATHER: Thank you very much, doctor.
