Literature can be a great way to talk about very hard things with children. We live in a country where mental illness is one of the most diagnosed medical issues and there most definitley is a child who has a parent who has struggled with depression. This book shows how a father's struggle with depressiont akes the color out of his world. With support and therapy the color starts coming back into his world. This book has a very complex theme.

This book is a great way to talk to childen about disabilities. In this book, Gary, the father who uses prostetic legs for mobility, showcases that differerences should be embraced. Another awesome fact children would love to know is that Gary has been a teacher in Knox County schools for over 20 years! This is a book that would be beneficial for all children, however one that is intended for younger children. It has some words that many children have probably never heard such as prostetic, which would be a great way to teach this new vocabulary.
