Foreigners began to view Hawaiians as "savages" and "simple minded creatures" due to the difference in cultures, despite Hawaiians having very complex systematic ways. In conclusion, Captain Cook was the first foreigner to discover the Hawaiian Islands and now people were thinking of how to use it to their advantage.

Impact: The arrival of Captain Cook impacted the overthrow of Hawaii because he introduced Hawaii to foreigners and brought western civilization to Hawaii. This affected the Hawaiian overthrow because it caused Hawaii to have to trade with the U.S. and create more contracts. The maka'ainana were forced to work as laborers for the sandalwood trade leading to the decline of native Hawaiian populations. This carved a path to the overthrow because it made the population of native Hawaiians in Hawaii decline which led to more foreigners being able to come to Hawaii and overtake their people. This was how the kapu came to an end through his parents influence. The end of the kapu also changed how the Hawaiians lived. The Bayonet Constitution was also signed at gunpoint. King Kalakaua was threatened to sign it while bayonets were held at gunpoint at him so he had no choice on whether to agree to it or not. Impact: As Queen Liliuokalani takes the throne she had little to no power and tried to fight back against the Hawaiian League. She look to help from the United states but was unfortunately declined by the next presidents, and had no power herself to stop the overthrow. This affects the overthrow as nobody was willing or able to help Hawaii and the Queen didn’t have power to stop the overthrow herself. Queen Liliuokalani also tried to stop the Hawaiian League. However, she wasn’t sufficient enough to do this by herself and the Hawaiian League ended up overthrowing the kingdom. Impact: The Hawaiian League was the root cause of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom because they created the Bayonet Constitution and planned the entire overthrow. The Bayonet Constitution made Kalakaua give up all of his power and gave it to the Hawaiian League. This affected the overthrow because when Liliuokalani took the throne, she had little to no power as the queen. The Hawaiian League conducted the overthrow of the queen and betrayed the queen.
