Every day we do a nursery rhyme and then every few days we change it. In the nursery rhyme we have or create our own actions for it. Sometimes I will show students actions to do or I will let students help me come up with actions to do for it. This really gets their imagination going and they feel more involved in the lesson. Being in preschool right now I agree with this one a lot. I think that by changing their centers especially the dramatic play center we are encouraging them to use their own imaginations. We have doctors office this year and the children loved it. It was so cool to watch them take on roles as doctors as they have seen it done before. We gave them lots of tools and babies to practice on. We told them the name of each tool, but tried to let them figure them out on their own. They did however ask how to use some things and began using them on their own. We are currently in our families unit so we have a washer and dryer in our center and it is so neat to watch them wash and fold the laundry and take care of their babies. The conversations are so sweet.

We use frogs and people so they students can play with something that they create. I think they are beneficial and help them understand the concepts better.

Puppets: I used a robot puppet to teach kids about syllables and breaking a part words. I had to talk like a robot and broke words up like cup-cake. There were even picture cards so students had to choose what the puppet was asking for. Either a cup, a cake, or a cupcake. The students loved this and were so excited for the lesson and to meet robo dog.

Play with students: Sometimes I need to do a better job as a facilitator rather than being more involved in play, but the children love when I join them and they love interacting with me. I love being a part of their conversations and listening to how they respond to things I say. I think playing with your students is so important. It helps you to get to know them better too. I definitely agree that this is a huge benefit. A lot of times, especially since covid, young children haven't been exposed to play with other children. We have seen in our young children since the pandemic began especially, that they are lacking in their social skills and simply don't know how to play with others. A lot of issues arise when children aren't used to or don't know how to play with others. Children have a very egocentric viewpoint and when they are immersed in play they are finally being exposed to others viewpoints and able to see that they have needs and feelings too. I see it done a lot in math groups when children can work together with manipulatives. Manipulatives: This is one of my favorites because it is such a great and easy way to incorporate play directly into teaching. I have been able to use manipulatives in different content areas like math and reading. I also love how manipulatives can take any concept and make it more concrete and hands on. When children are having a hard time visualizing the concept you are able to physically put it in their hands and that helps them understand it better. 
Learning outside: Learning outside is one of my favorites because for one I know how beneficial being outdoors is for children, and two because I have seen how much content can be taught outside. You can take just about anything you are teaching and find a way to connect it to nature. Children love having the opportunity to get outside and it is so beneficial for them. It is a great way to incorporate play into children's learning. 
Acting it out: This is one of my favorites because kids get really excited about it. They love getting the chance to be a part of their learning and acting it out is a great way to do this. I have done this in my SEL lessons so they model the social skill they are learning. I also am currently doing this in math by acting out addition and subtraction problems. Children get to physically be a part of their learning. This is a great time as a teacher to formatively assess them and see their level of understanding with a topic while they are getting to play during their learning!
