I chose it due to the relevancy in the current age for the younger generations of western society, with over 1 billion monthly active users (Barnhart 2021). 

Instagram made its debut on 6th of October 2010, which was 4 months after the iPhone 4 had launched. One of Instagram's key features was utilising the innovative forward facing camera of the new iPhone 4 to make posts of selfies, photos and short videos for users to upload and share. It also introduced a follow and rating systems similar to other forms of media like Youtube, Pinterest and Tumblr. It had little competition due to it being an app that was easy to use, it became the most popular photo and video sharing app with over 1 million users within the first month of its launch.

Like other social media platforms it is an easy way to connect with other people at a distance and creating content for large audiences. 

Content creators have the freedom to base their page on whatever they want (also known as "feed"), whether it be about their personal life, blogging, journalism, fashion, design, fitness, health, news, politics, cats, dogs and many more. 

With this much freedom it gives more power to the people to organise certain groups, raising awareness to certain topics and issues and starting or growing a movement. Examples include: "Black Lives Matter" or "BLM", "LGBTQ+", "Women's rights", "#MeToo" and many more forms of activism. A recent case that expanded the BLM movement featured many users to participate in "#BlackOutTuesday" in hopes to raise awareness for African-American discrimination, Systemic Racism, Police Brutality and the All Cops Are Bastardised phrase.

With so many icons, "influencers" and celebrities on the platform showcasing their "luxurious" lifestyle, many younger audiences approach the contents as if it dictates how they should be living as well. This produces a false sense of reality and expectations leading to social anxiety (Jiang and Ngien 2020). Along with social anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts can be a result of Fear Of Missing Out and Cyberbullying. 

Cyberbullying is one of the biggest problems with Instagram and other social media platforms, however Instagram alone has the highest reported case of cyberbullying amongst teens, with 59% of US teens having personally experienced a form of cyberbullying. A study by Pew Research Center had found out that 90% of teens "believe online harassment a problem that affects people their age... majority of young people think teachers, social media companies and politicians are failing at tackling this issue" (Anderson 2018).

It can either continually grow or discontinue like Google+, Vine and Musically. 

However, both results are dependant on Instagrams' decisions, if for example they prioritise businesses and making money like YouTube, there will be a growing distrust on the platform by the main content creators, but unlike YouTube which has little competition, Instagram has many competition like Snapchat, Twitter and TikTok, where all of them could easily surpass Instagram and the creators switch to the other platforms.

The greatest strength were the visuals, however my greatest weakness was my performance, presentation of the padlet was not well done, many suggested that I prepare before presenting proving that I had not done well enough.
