Through this project, we want to improve our musicality by creating a full and warm tone within our pieces. We also aspire to sound like a genuine and complete orchestra despite being a chamber orchestra. Along with our skills, we also want to display our passion for music as we play songs that we love on a daily basis. For the seniors, we want to finish off our high school orchestra years with fun, bright, and blissful memories. For the underclassmen, we want to spend our last years with amazing and talented seniors by playing beautiful pieces we all enjoy.

1.) Musical Progression
Our Progress has been abnormally slow due to the frequent replacement of our pieces and the tight time limit. Our musical progress is also not up to par for many of us, especially as our songs don't quite sound like a solid ensemble music, especially our song "The Legend of Ashitaka" had the slowest development out of the other songs. For other songs, we've been able to start and play with moderate difficulty and the pieces we've had the greatest progression on is Symphony no. 25 and Requiem Aranea. Overall, we've had decent progress and we think we are heading on the right track.

2.) Musical Struggles/fixes
Our greatest struggle is staying together and establishing both a balance and unity in all of our pieces. For every single piece, there are certain parts that we all collectively fall apart in without fail. We plan on playing the songs as an ensemble together as much as possible in order to gain a better understanding of how our parts fit in together. In certain pieces such as Requiem Aranea, we also need to adjust dynamics to accomplish a more stunning and musical delivery. We also will focus more on rhythm, as there are certain sections in songs such as "The Legend of Ashitaka" or "A Town with an Ocean View" which has difficult rhythm and fast 16th notes.

3.) Team work
Our team is very dedicated, talented, and meticulous, perhaps even a little bit of a perfectionist. We all have excellent communication and is able to bounce off ideas that will fix the small but consequential details. Overall, we all love each other :)

(but joseph moon sucks)

This year, I enjoyed playing challenging yet invigorating pieces. I learned through this experience that I should focus on keeping a steady tempo and playing rhythm accurately. The most important aspect we worked on throughout all our pieces was playing together and ornamenting our music with contrasting dynamics. Our best pieces were Requiem and Symphony 25, but our most challenging piece was Princess Mononoke. I liked how rewarding it felt when we fixed staying together during the solo part. Our performance did not go like I hoped, but we were able to get back together often.

I thought that the duration for this year's chamber project was much shorter than last year's chamber project, and it felt relatively rushed. It was also a lot more difficult to agree on pieces as our group member all have different tastes. Other than the beginning, the practicing process went smoother than I had expected. There were a few pieces that were exceptionally more difficult, such as "Princess Mononoke" and "Holberg Suite". Other pieces we were able to play relatively easily but we did not have enough time to work specifically on the musicality or the dynamics other than for the pieces "Requiem Aranea" and "A Town with an Ocean View." The performance did not go as well as I hoped to, and I wish we could've had more time to perfect some of our other pieces, especially holberg. We could play relatively together, but I wanted to achieve a greater musicality with the group. This project taught me to how to be more communicative with the group and figure out alternatives to our problems. When we had a section that was more difficult, we would all work together to figure out the rhythm and the notes. If I had a next time, I would want to focus more on the problematic pieces and focus more on the dynamics. Overall I had a great experience for my last chamber project and I think I had an enjoyable and meaningful time getting to work with brilliant other individuals.

This was a very fun progress overall. I loved being able to play with my friends and get closer with my peers! Throughout the performance, I realized that it was more complicated to switch instruments and deal with the different ways the instruments are built. I was a little sad when I messed up my part in holberg suite, but overall I was proud of my progress on the viola, given that I had never played it before. I was glad with our progress as a group, and was glad that we all worked hard to make our music sound good. I think next time, I would have chosen our pieces faster so that we could have more time to practice! Overall I am very proud of our performance, and I'm glad we were able to stay together.

Overall, I think this year's chamber project went well when all of the factors are considered. We had much less time to practice together as an ensemble because of external factors like some of us being out of school. We also picked pieces in the beginning that sounded nice, but didn't really resonate with any of us, so it all sounded flat. Despite the rush of constantly switching our pieces put us in, I'm glad we did it as we found the pieces that we could truly enjoy. Some of the pieces, such as Requiem and Symphony 25 were doing well from the initial sightread, though it took some practice on my part to play some of the faster rhythms and the higher notes better than in the beginning. Despite some initial success, we struggled with Princess Mononoke and Holberg Suite because while the parts sounded alright individually- when played in the ensemble, it sounded muddy. We each worked to make all of our parts shine through and picked the correct parts to allow this to happen. In this project, I got better at listening to the other sections to find where my music fit rather than letting them overtake my sound or being so loud over another playing the melody. I want to say that I vibrato a bit better now, but this is up for debate. In the end, I'm proud of the progress we made despite hitting the occasional slump. I had a lot of fun with this project this year in this group.

The chamber music process was a fun experience overall. The performance was decent, but we did make a few mistakes, such as intonation errors or playing the incorrect notes. One thing to highlight was Holberg Suite, where we fell apart in the middle of the piece. Fortunately though, we came back together at the end of the piece and it sounded great. In the previous year, we had a lot more time to prepare and practice, however, there was a shorter amount of time this year to prepare for the Art Show. As a musician, the project taught me what to do and practice in a time crunch. The next project comes around, I think that preparing music to play before the project is announced would preserve a lot of time that could be used to practice.

Coming from high expectations of last year's performance, this year felt subpar. I think it was due to the lack of time and also the difficulty with choosing pieces, having changed several times before before finally settling on pieces close to the performance date. In addition, the pieces that we had picked were very challenging, especially the pieces from "Princess Mononoke" and "Holberg Suite." As a group, we struggled the most on balance of melody and harmony and tone quality, and in my opinion, we never got to what we wanted but it was still better than we expected especially given our constraints. For myself, I lacked in keeping tempo and rhythms, often getting lost when counting. During the performance, it was especially hard to hear the other sections, so as a musician, I realized how important it is to stay with my section by keeping a steady tempo. Although our rehearsal was better than our actual performance, I think it didn't go super terribly since we would get back together when we got off. If we had the opportunity to do this again in college, I would definitely focus on difficult parts by isolating our parts and playing them to find out how they connect to each other. This project was super fun and I'll be missing orchestra class.

This was a really enjoyable experience, and I appreciate having the opportunity to play and make memories with my friends. The performance itself definitely could have gone better, but I know there are several sections of our pieces that sounded much better than they have sounded for the past month. One of those parts was during Princess Mononoke which went a lot smoother than expected. In particular, I had been struggling with the timing of my solo and it quite honestly just sounded crusty. After changing to playing the part on the cello, and going through the rhythms with Helen and Joseph, it really began to bring the piece together. One thing we did well in my opinion was listening to each other. Whenever the person leading a section may have slowed down or sped up, we were able to adjust, even if it took a few measures to do. This project honestly taught me to be flexible and go with the flow, since we had so many changes during the course of our project. If I had to make any changes for next year, I would have an idea of theme going into the project so that it doesn't take forever to pick music.
