Artificial islands were made to plant corn, beans, squashes, avocados, and tomatoes. Along with having vegetables, the Aztecs had fishing to support them, and hunted local animals like snakes, wild turkey, rabbit, armadillos, and coyote.

The Aztecs shared similarities with other Mesoamerican religions. Aztecs believed in many agricultural gods and goddesses because of how much agriculture was incorporated into their daily life. Also, human sacrifice was used for religion purposes. Aztecs showed devotion to the sun and war god, Huitzilopotchli and Quetzalcoatl, a god that was important to the faith. A calendar made by the Aztecs based on the 365 day and 260 day ritual, was also important to the Aztecs faith because it tied in with rituals that were performed.
