I chose this tree because It represents Melinda in more ways than one. And it shows how she is feeling. "I see a girl caught in the remains of a holiday gone bad, with her flesh picked off day after day as the carcass dries out" (Anderson 64)

Malinda and Maya have something very personal in common. They were both rapped. The reason why I picked this is because Malinda posted a poster over her mirror, because she wants to be a strong independent women and get over what happened to her just like Maya. "I figure Maya would like it if i read in here, so I bring a few books from home." (Anderson 50)

Mr freeman's name is a symbol for a couple of reasons. One reason is because he acts very spiritual, and he also acts very relaxed all the time because he loves to do what he wants and that is doing art. He is very nice to Malinda and he told her that she is always "Free" to talk to him about whatever she wants whenever. "if you ever need to talk, you know where to find me" (Anderson 123).

Melinda's Mouth and Lips

Melinda's mouth and lips represent the pain of her not wanting to talk after she got rapped. She wants to speak up about what happened to her but she physically cant do it. She loses all of her friends for calling the cops to the party she got raped at and now shes all alone. This picture and her lips represent her not able to talk about what happened to her because its still a sensitive spot for her. "A guy behind me unwraps his breakfast and shoots the wrapper at the back of my head. It bounces into my lap--a Ho-Ho" (Anderson 3). This quote shows her not responding to people being jerks to her because they all don't know what happened to her and they just hate her for calling the cops.

The Mirror represents the way she feels like how she is fragile/vulnerable in certain ways and how she is running into thorn bushes and hurting herself because of the way she sees herself in the mirror. "I feel like my skin has been burned off. I stumble from thorn bush to thorn bush---My mother and father that hate each other, Rachel who hates me, a school that gags on me like I'm a hairball. And Heather." (Anderson 125)

The frog in the story represents her feelings. The feeling that was triggered during this event was vulnerability and she also feels dead inside. This reminded her about herself because she doesn't know how to tell everyone that she was rapped and its caucusing a large amount of depression. Also the way the frog was positioned also triggered the memory of Melinda getting rapped. "Our frog lies on her back. Waiting for a prince to come and princessify her with a smooch? I stand over her with my knife." (Anderson 81)
