I spoke at a board meeting about the importance of having dedicated Teacher Librarians at each site. They did not hire more librarians, but they did increase the library budget based on some of the data that I presented.

When I speak to teachers, I try to emphasize how what we do together elevates anything we would do separately. While teachers don't always see the potential at first, that understanding develops one small step at a time.

When the district rolls out a new technology tool, I always make sure to record screencasts for my teachers. They appreciate the fact that I can offer a resource that they can access at any moment on their own time. I feel like this shows my worth so it is a small effort of advocacy. They sometimes even brag about me to our principal which really helps!

In my state, the funding that used to provide media specialists (TL's) to nearly every school was slashed significantly in 2007 and again a few years later. Teachers in my state, now, don't know what a media specialist is meant to do, because most have never met one in their school. Standing in line, waiting for my sugar free mocha, I overheard a teacher complaining about the lack of digital literacy in her school. (at first, I thought she meant the students!) Many of the seasoned teachers in her building still don't know how to use email! Being the nosey librarian, that takes every opportunity to preach the beauty of literacy skills, I asked her if her school had a media specialist. She told me that the entire district share 3-4 techs that circulate one per day among all of the schools and that they are there just to perform circulation duties. I told her that is a incredible shame. If her school had a media specialist, she would have someone powerful to lean against for technology and literacy collaboration, not to mention professional development days (where the other teachers could learn how to use email!). I recommended that she go to a school board meeting and demand funding to create that job. Whether I was successful, I don't know. At least I imprinted into one teacher of the potential being missed.
