Firstly, to Robs friends and family. As I could not physically attend todays farewell, the first thing I would like to say is how sorry I am for your loss and would like to send you my love & condolences. Also, thank you all for organising the webcast, so myself and other friends could be here from a distance. I will always cherish my memories of Rob.

To Dearest Rob,

This has been such a surreal moment in time & I can’t believe I will never again see you and your green swag backpack walking up from the beach or off an international flight.

From the moment we met in 2015 a new friendship was formed. We went on to have great times together. It was a friendship that felt so comfortable from the moment we met that we went on to spend more time together over the last couple of years than I did with my longest best friends.

We always did something new or just enjoyed chilling out together. You loved the Gold Coast sun & beach. You spent so much time on the beach, so you could go back tanned (or I say red)

I will forever cherish our friendship, our laughs & the ease of how it felt we had known each other forever... you are a beautiful, loyal friend, with a heart of gold... & no my life is missing the mate that would say YES to any suggestion. We would always find a new place to meet up, like Perth, Brisbane, Stradbroke Island or the Gold Coast.

Robert Crosland you lived! And you did so much in your short time with us.

I hope we can all take a bit of the YES from you & apply that to our lives.

I will truly miss you so much... Your humour was infectious.

It was hilarious that you liked picking on our tv news reports of “breaking news” as you didn’t think we really needed to say “breaking news” for a traffic jam.

I love all your funny stories of travels, adventures and missed flights. No hiking shoes, and breaking Rob’s dryer, only to come to my house and do the same.

When we went to Stradbroke Island, we were playing pool & you told me your father was a really good billiards player. I may have gone on to embellish the truth to the other pool players & said “Rob’s dad is a champion Billiards player for England” so the punters got a little scared to play us and take over the table.

When we went to Perth my best friend’s son - Bryon, who is 12 - became Rob’s best friend right from the start. As we were leaving little Byron said to me - Rob is my new best friend! Byron then went on to contact Rob every chance he could via Facebook messenger. It goes to show, you had time for everyone & were so great with children. You talked of your love of your nieces & nephews & godchildren so much.

My heart will hurt now and forever, however, I know you would want us to celebrate your life & what you bought to everyone who met and got to know you. So, that is what I will do.

Rob, my dearest friend, thank you for the memories and fun times you bought to my life. Until we meet again, much love - Terri-Louise Gold Coast Australia.

I'll try to summarise what Bob meant to so many of us.
I asked myself what will we miss the most? I hope you can relate to some of these points too.
1. HIS LUST FOR LIFE
I've never known anyone try to get more out of life than Bob. He took everything from life. I don't know of anyone who has visited more places and made more people smile than Bob. And I know he has been on trips that I don't know about. Here is a friend who has literally travelled the world to come and see Jen, Gillian and I on no less than 8 occasions. His drive and endless enthusiasm pushed all those who knew him down a more interesting path through life.
Andy Collins' words illustrate Bob's effect on our lives.
I quote:
I feel incredibly fortunate to have been such good friends with Bob. His enthusiasm for adventure meant we became travel companions and saw much of the world together. Our first trip was to Canada in 2001. 13 excursions to 13 different countries over the years, with our final one to Vietnam in 2017. So many unforgettable experiences, so many precious memories that I will forever cherish.

2. HIS KINDNESS
Jen and I both remember when we asked him to be Gillians godfather. He was so happy AND yet so surprised that we would choose him. I think Bob's kindness was so selfless and without conscious thought. This could be only a positive influence on our daughter.

3. HE ALWAYS SAID YES without a thought to any request made of him, despite the inconvenience it would cause him. Recently he agreed, without hesitation to obtain a car and insurance for me in his name for the summer. Turns out he had made claims already, wasn't going to be in the country and knew nothing about cars. Hardly ideal but he was never going to say no.

Or the time Jen and I wanted to go camping in the lakes after his Pharmacy graduation. Of course, Bob being Bob, could make it happen and had a tent we all could use up in the Lakes. Turned out there was no inner lining on the tent so Bob and I slept in the cold with only a beer jacket to keep us warm. One of my favourite memories. Just another example of a guy who wouldn't say No to a mate.

4. A TRUE FRIEND
I've known Bob for 25 years since our days of Ilkley Grammar school.
There are literally 100's of memories and stories I know we all have with Bob. Here are just a few of mine:
Sleeping over so often on my top bunk that I thought he had moved in.
Playing Mario kart on the Nintendo 64 for hours on end.
The still unsolved incident of the shooting of my mums lampshade with an airsoft gun.
Getting served our first beers at 16 in Crown stores by Dave Wright. Annoying my neighbour, aptly named by Bob as Sgt. Bilko.
And unsurprisingly me getting the blame.
The list goes on. And not just my list. Everyone who knew him has their own list of special moments.

One particular example of his friendship that comes to mind when we finished our A-levels we went back home to his parents house in Burley during the day.
In my euphoria I thought it was wise to drink vodka before stumbling home. Bob climbed onto our porch and saw me collapsed through the bedroom window. He climbed up the drain pipe and in through my upstairs bathroom window to make sure I was alright. Like I said; a true friend.

5. HIS MERCILESS SENSE OF HUMOUR
I think I will miss this the most. I imagine everyone here today has been on the receiving end of Bob's jokes, inevitably at our own expense.
And when Bob laughed, the whole room laughed with him.
At you.
Whether he was recalling the time you couldn't find your way out of a tent to go to the bathroom, or that you fell asleep on the last train and ended up in Penrith. Or merely highlighting the fact that my vegetarian farts are distinctly different from other peoples.
He always brought laughter to the room. Thanks for that Bob.

Bob loved his Science fiction so I'll finish with a quote that seems appropriate, from Blade Runner.

"The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long - and you have burned so very, very brightly."

Pete
