This pie chart demonstrates where the average Canadians retirement income comes from which is how it relates to the topic. The largest portion of retirement income comes from Pensions and RRSPS followed closely by Old Age Security income. I found the income from investments and employment surprised me the most as i thought they would have occupied a much larger percentage. This image is very helpful as it clearly indicates where each portion of income in retirement comes from.

I found this image very useful because it is clearly laid out in the precise order in which a person should follow. This visual is a condensed version of a much bigger financial security plan.

This website communicates to the viewer the importance of financial planning for Canadians. It relates to the topic because many Canadians do not understand what a financial plan consists of or even how to get started in creating one.I feel this website provides the viewer with a step by step process starting from the very beginning.A few key points explained in this website are; everyone should have a plan, it's never too soon to start a plan, different stages of planning and how to deal with hiccups along the way. One key fact I found very interesting or helpful on this website was that it stated that financial security provides emotional well being as well, not just a financial well being. I never thought of how it would effect a person emotionally.

The video depicts that it is shocking to see by the stats how much money we will need to save for a financially secure retirement. One point I found interesting in this video is that it was stated that there was a split on wether or not Canadians are financially secure for retirement. This was interesting to me because it seems that there is definitely a gap between being pretty secure and not secure at all financially amongst Canadians approaching retirement. This video was helpful as it shows that there is financially secure individuals and it is possible to achieve.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIGLRUG7jEI
This video significantly relates to the topic because it provides the viewer with 7 distinct situations to avoid in order to succeed at being financially secure. These points are:
1. Have not cultivated emotional resilience.(listening to negativity)
2. Not respectful of transitions (not ready/unsure about retirement.)
3. Don't know their numbers(40% of Canadians have know idea how much they actually need to save for a secure retirement).
4. Don't have a plan.(do not realize that there are many aspects to retirement.)
5.Don't stay engaged in the process. (do not follow the plan, a plan is continuous work, not a one time deal)
6. Don't embrace financial literacy. (study information and keep informed)
7. Don't have a financial coach. (do not have a professional looking after them, try doing a plan all on their own.)
Although this video was lengthy I found the charts that were presented was a great summarization of the narrative portion.

What I learned about retirement and financial security that surprised me the most was how much money I must have available by the time I retire to be able to sustain the same lifestyle. It is very surprising to see how fast invested or saved money can accumulate over the years but it is also very surprising how much it will cost to live a modest lifestyle during retirement.

I found the topic of retirement and financial security both relevant and interesting to me. Although I am only eighteen years old and still in school, this topic informed me that it is never to soon to start saving and investing towards financial security, especially for retirement. I also found it very interesting that until I studied this topic I had never even thought of future financial security for retirement. I had only ever thought of the next 5-10 years and where I would like to be career and financial wise.

The research I found most interesting was the “Financial Planning for Canadians” website. Although all the websites did provide relevant and pertinent information, I found that this particular website was much more user friendly and easy to read. This website displayed all aspects of planning for financial security and retirement. Starting right from the beginning at, what is financial planning?, who should start a financial plan? and how to start a financial plan for retirement security. The videos on this website were very interesting and helpful as well.

It is my belief that retirement and financial security should be important and relevant in everyone’s financial game plan regardless of their age or financial situation.
