Portraying how all people are wicked and will be punished by serving eternity in hell, the pastor depicts hell for sinners as "gaping for them" and that the "devil is waiting for them". He uses hell as a constant theme throughout his sermon, each time using more imagery and depictions about the terrible land of the devil.

The pastor uses the mercy of God for persuasion. Before he played on the imagery of hell and how terrible it will be in hell, in order to sway his congregation to accept the mercy of God. Now he shows his audience how God has your fate in his hands and how life can be over at any second. But the "mere pleasure of God" is what keeps you from death at the moment, but in order to not go to hell after, you must take his salvation through grace.
