It was only until then that he realized how unfair it really was. Jem urged to make a change because he understood how wrong it was to convict a black man when the evidence pointed to the white man against him. However, as he watched the unjust of the world surrounding him, he started his own theory about the reality of Boo Radley's motives. Boo ignited the possibility of being so mad at the world that he wouldn't show his face around. Jem understood that she was not family but he still treated her as warmly as he could. Just like Calpurnia treated others with respect, he did also. Calpurnia's trip to the church gave him a few good lessons. When they were unwanted there, there was a parallel of the discrimination the black people of the church felt. When the church needed money to help Tom's family, Jem wanted to give them a coin; it was a stem of his generosity. He is kind to them and even has patience whenever they don't understand a certain concept, like this one, for example. Here, he isn't very explicit about the issue, but he makes sure to address the situation. He knows Jem is a curious boy with a sympathetic heart. Atticus' own good manners have raised Jem to become a young man that is as good as his father. Even when the whole county seems to be against Atticus, Jem defends his father because he knows they are all in the wrong.
