Description:

In KG1 lunchtime observation, I noticed that teachers encouraged the children to be independent but were ready to step in and help when necessary. The children were allowed to open their lunch boxes, eat as they pleased, and were prompted gently in picking food.

Purpose :

This approach promotes autonomy, emotional safety, and the formation of healthy eating habits. By following responsive routines, children learn to recognize their hunger and fullness cues, which teaches self-regulation.

Justification:

Applying Erikson's stages of psychosocial growth, this age is in the "Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt" stage—children really grow when they can find their independence within safe boundaries.

Reflection:

I observed children smiled widely when they managed to open their tins or picked up after themselves. Sensitive feeding practices not only foster emotional growth, but they also maintain relationships between adults and children.

Description:

Teachers organized fun activities such as dancing to music, clapping along to the beat, or playing instruments during cleaning time.

Purpose & Impact:

These activities boost auditory processing, rhythm, coordination, and language skills.

Justification:

Music plays a vital role in developing both the left and right sides of the brain, while also fostering expressive abilities (Isenberg & Jalongo, 2010).

Reflection:

The children were full of joy and actively engaged. Many started to sing words clearly or mimic rhythms, demonstrating their progress in language and motor skills.

Description:

Teachers took the lead in showing and encouraging cooperative play like passing a ball, sharing blocks, or patiently waiting for your turn during a board game.

Purpose & Impact:

This approach helps kids develop social skills, manage their impulses, and build empathy.

Justification:

As Bandura’s Social Learning Theory suggests, kids pick up behaviors by watching and mimicking adults and their peers, especially in structured social settings.

Reflection:

As time went on, kids became more patient and started using phrases like “my turn next” without needing a nudge from their teachers. This was a clear sign of their growth in social-emotional development.

Description:

Teachers used specific praise, like “You waited so patiently!”  with visual reward systems such as star charts to encourage positive behavior.

Purpose & Impact:

This strategy helps boost self-esteem and motivation, promoting positive behavior through encouragement instead of punishment.

Justification:

Skinner’s Behaviorist Theory backs up the idea of using reinforcement to shape behavior. When children receive positive feedback, it helps them feel more competent.

Reflection:

You could see the smiles on the children’s faces and the pride they felt when praised, and many of them started repeating those good behaviors. This method really helped create a supportive and respectful classroom environment.
